SCOPE
1. This Specification covers design, engineering, manufacture,
inspection and testing, packing/forwarding and supply at site, proving
mechanical and performance guarantees. Supervision of erection and commissioning
of filter press, if required, will be at extra cost.
2 The equipment shall conform in all respects to high standards of design, engineering
and workmanship.

BASIS OF DESIGN

32. Operation will be for 24 hours per day. Pressing of plates, opening of plate,
starting of pump, and shifting of plates by side shifter and all intermediate
operation will be automatic. Total cycle time filtration will be 3 hours (approx).
33 Provision for Air drying will be provided to dry up the cake after filtration cycle.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
Following will be common features of filter press.
1 Filter press will be horizontal plate type. The filter press will be hydraulically opened
and closed. Filter press will be designed to efficiently dewater the slurry for handling
dry cake and will include all components necessary for complete the operation.
Plates will be mounted on tie bar located on both sides of the press. Plate will slide
smoothly on tie bar
2. The press will be fitted with a plate transport mechanism which moves the plates in
turn automatically once the moving end is retracted to its fully open position. Each plate is
moved individually without the use of interconnecting chains or cables. The plate shifting
mechanism will be fully supported and guided in a fabricated steel structure mounted
along each side of the filter press side bars. Replaceable wear strips will be provided on
side bars. Chain sprockets will run in oiltight bushings and chain tension will be fully
adjustable from one end of the mechanism. A removable fabricated steel guard on each
side will enclose the plate moving mechanism. Material of construction of shifter will be
SS304. For one man operation of the Filter Press during the emptying operation execution;
4. All the battery limit flanges will be drilled as per ANSI B16.5.
2 The filter press structure will consist of feed head, moving plate, end plate and tie
bars. The structure will be fabricated of structural steel IS-2062. The moving plate will be
mounted on the tie bars with the help of rollers.
4 The tie bars will be constructed of IS-2062 with MS . Tie bars will be straight and rigid.
Tie bars will be keyed to the feed head and end plate.
5 The structure of the press will be fabricated of heavy duty web sections to

provide adequate distribution of static loads. Bomb door drip tray will be made up
of MS and will be hydraulically operated.
6 Filtrate tray will be mounted on one side of filter press and will be constructed in
MS with suitable flanges for outlet.
FILTER PLATES
1 Filter plates will be of the center feed, four- cornered discharge
designed for operation at 15kg/cm² pressure at ambient temperature. Handles
provided on the side of the plates will support it on tie bars.
PAINTING
Painting will be as per SAE 2 ½ standard with two coats of zinc phosphate primer
and single coat of Epoxy paint .
CONTROLS
1. Control Panel will be provided at closing end of filter press.
2. The Hard-ware control panel will provide manual control selector switch in whether
proof enclosure. This control panel will be suitable to IP 65. The panel will include
necessary starter, control relays, timers. All components will be prewired to a main
numbered terminal strip with wiring run neatly.
