Lesson Idea
Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s): (Which level(s) will this lesson meet using this technology
tool?)
How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply. (Sometimes only one option will
apply.)
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
x Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
x Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
topics of Theodore Roosevelts life that they would like to research further. They can use
books (teacher will take pictures), draw pictures, or write down their research. Each group
will then (with teacher assistance) record their research to create another classroom digital
story book to be shared with another first grade class.
Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
This will be a two week project. We will spend 30 minutes three days a week collaborating
with our groups, and as a class. We will make sure no one covers the exact same topics. We
will work to present accurate information. Spend time at the library to do our research with
books and online. Learn about how to use text, audio, music, and color with a PowerPoint
software. Work toward our deadline to present to another first grade class.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Microsoft PowerPoint software has immersive reader,
captions with other languages, and text to speech, and speech to text allowing accessibility
for all students. This activity will engage students as they are creating their own research and
learning in depth about Theodore Roosevelt. Working in a collaborative environment will
allow all students to be heard and their opinions valued.
