Descriptions and Operations

ABS Control
ABS control (ABS) contains following com-
ponents:
● ABS control system module (ECU)
● H
ydraulic control unit (HCU), must be replaced
together with ABS module.
● Wheel speed sensor
● Ring gear of the wheel speed sensor
● ccelerometer (equipped with four-wheel drive
A
vehicles)
● ABS indicator

Wheel speed sensor

Use magnetic induction sensors, monitor wheel
speed and send the signal to ABS control
module.

Hydraulic control unit (HCU)

To carry out brake pressure regulator for system.

ABS Control module (ECU)

ECU receives the signal from the wheel speed
sensor, determines working status of wheels,
and controls the work of HCU. ECU can carry out
the system diagnosis, when the failure of ABS
or related components is detected, ABS control
will be switched off, the ABS fault indicator in the
dash panel insert will light.

ABS indicator
To indicate the working status of ABS, when
system is just powered up (Ignition switches to
"ON") or in the driving process, ABS indicator will
be turned off after 1 to 3 seconds. If ABS indicator
does not light in the power-process or lights over
a long time in the driving process, it means that
there are faults in ABS system.

Diagnosis and Testing

ABS control
General Tools ABS control module performs automatic
monitoring, when the ignition ABS only starts to
Multimeter for car use work when speed exceeds 10 km/h. ABS failure
will make ABS not work and lighten the ABS
ABS Principle Diagram fault indicator, but conventional brake can still be
ensured.

Operating Principle
ABS control system module (ABS) monitors the
speed signal of all wheels, once one or several
wheels with brake locking trend is detected,
hydraulic adjustment device can respond to
it in time to prevent the brake pressure from
increasing further or start to reduce the brake
pressure. Due to this kind ofpressure adjustment,
the wheels can always maintain steady state, thus
to ensure the driving stability and the shortest
brake distance.

Parts Testing Wheel Speed Sensor - Resistance Check

Accelerometer 1. Check whether there is metal chip in front of
1. O
pen the accelerometer connector, connect the wheel speed sensor. If there is, the chip
opened connector terminals with the wire as should be cleared away. If necessary, replace
shown. the sensor.
2. Measure the resistance between the sensor
terminals. The standard resistance of wheel
speed sensor is 1 ~ 2 kΩ. If the measurement
value is not within the specified scope, the
sensor should be replaced.

2. S
witch on the ignition, measure the output
voltage between the terminal 2 and 3, the
standard value is 2.4 ~ 2.6 V.
3. K
eep connection, make the upturned marker
on the accelerometer mounting surface point
down.Then measure the output voltage
between the terminal 2 and 3, the standard
value is 3.4 ~ 3.6 V.
4. If the output voltage is not within the specified
scope, replace the accelerometer after checking
that the power cable and grounding line are ok.

3. Disconnect all the connections of wheel speed

sensor, then measure the resistance between
the sensor terminal 1, 2 and the sensor
housing. The standard value should be over
100 kΩ, if not, replace the sensor.

4. Check whether there is open circuit, damage

and other phenomena in the sensor cable, if
there is, the sensor should be replaced.
