FlyThisSim TouchTrainer Set-up Guide V 1.

FlyThisSim L.L.C.
102 Cross St. Suite 110
San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Thank you for purchasing the TouchTrainer™ by FlyThisSim. We take pride in providing you with one of the most
advanced personal flight trainers on the market. Before we shipped the TouchTrainer to you, we pre-configured all of
the software, calibrated all of the hardware, and tested the whole assembled system. However, we had to disassemble
it for shipping, so there are a there are a few preflight checks that need to be done. In about 45 minutes or less, you
should be ready for takeoff in your brand new TouchTrainer™.

Please be aware that because we are always improving our product, so there may be minor differences between your
system and the one shown in this document.

Section 2: Assembly

TouchTrainer™ Base
Your TouchTrainer™ comes mostly pre-wired. The only thing you need to do is to feed the wires through the proper
openings in the base.

There are five main wire harnesses that connect all the components of your TouchTrainer™, shown below in Figure 1:

• Computer Harness • AUX Monitor Harness

o MAIN monitor HDMI cable o AUX monitor DVI cable
o MAIN monitor USB cable o AUX monitor USB
o AUX monitor DVI cable o AUX monitor power
o AUX monitor USB cable • Joystick Harness
o Throttle USB cable o Joystick USB
o Joystick USB cable • Power Junction Box
o Computer power cable o Computer power cable

TouchTrainer™ Rudder Pedals

Your TouchTrainer™ system comes with rudder pedals which will need to be set up.

1) Place the pedals underneath the table or desk you will be using. Depending on your floor surface, you may need
to use the included Velcro strips or place a rubber mat underneath the pedals. This is to keep the pedals from
slipping.
2) Adjust the tension in the pedals to a setting that feels comfortable. A good rule of thumb is to increase the
tension until the controls feel too heavy, then loosen the tension a quarter turn or so (Figure 7).

3) Pull the USB cable up the backside of your desk or table and set it aside for now. If needed, you can use the USB
extension cable provided.

TouchTrainer™ Computer
WARNING: Before you attach the power cable to your TouchTrainer™ computer, please check that the power supply
input voltage matches your country’s standards (115V for North and Central America, 230V for Europe and Asia). Failure
to do so will lead to catastrophic failure (Figure 8)

Section 3: Startup
You’re almost done. The last thing to do is to check that everything was installed properly. The TouchTrainer™ system
makes this very easy for you and requires no guesswork.

1) Power on the computer and the TouchTrainer™ Supervisor will auto-start (Figure 18).
2) Swipe through and read the system guidelines.
3) The TouchTrainer™ Supervisor will confirm connection of your external devices with a green indicator in the Real
Time Monitor (Figure 18, upper left-hand corner).
4) If any of the indicators are RED, it must be addressed before starting the TouchTrainer. See the troubleshooting
section on the next page.

Figure 18: TouchTrainer Supervisor Real Time Monitor

Use the touch screen to swipe the supervisor pages through the start-up sequence, reading the limitations and
approvals of your TouchTrainer as you go along. Once you get to the last page, you can double tap the screen. X-Plane
and SimAVIO will automatically start and you’re ready to fly.

Section 4: First Flight

Use this procedure only if you are unfamiliar with the TouchTrainer. This is not the standard Start-Up checklist one
would use for the actual aircraft. After you become familiar with the operation of the TouchTrainer, use the aircraft
approved Pilot’s Operating Handbook checklists.

Start-Up Procedures: Before you begin

Before following this procedure, you must check that you have properly assembled the TouchTrainer hardware, and that
you have passed the systems start-up checks. Those checks include network, joystick, rudder, throttle, and X-Plane
connectivity. Depending on the aircraft you have loaded, follow either one of the two procedures:

o Cirrus Avidyne (includes analog aircraft)

o Cirrus Perspective

Selecting an Aircraft
To set the TouchTrainer up for a session, select the LOAD AIRCRAFT button from the AUX monitor.

A pop-up window will appear allowing you to select the aircraft and panel configuration of your choice. If an aircraft
panel is not displayed, then select File/Open Layout from the SimAVIO window.

Setting location, fuel, and weather

To set the location, fuel, or weather, select the SHOW I.O.S. button from the AUX monitor display.

This will open the X-Plane IOS window (Error! Reference source not found.). Use the main touch screen, system mouse
and keyboard to:

• Load the correct simulated aircraft for the next session into X-Plane using the “Load Aircraft” button
• Move the simulated aircraft to the desired take-off or airborne location using the “Load Airport” button
• Set the simulated aircraft fuel state and AUW using the “Weight and Fuel” button
• Set the simulated time and weather using the “Set Time” and “Set Weather” buttons respectively.

You can return to the cockpit by pressing the IOS (F1) button. The TouchTrainer simulated aircraft controls should be
checked to ensure they are in the correct initial positions.

Cirrus Avidyne and Analog Start-Up Procedure

The procedure for the Avidyne and analog are similar, thus do not require separate start-up guides. In addition to the
Avidyne aircraft, use this guide to start the analog aircraft. Just follow the guide step-by-step, pressing the button that
matches the corresponding step in the procedure (i.e. press the button labeled “1” in the picture below when working
on step 1).
