Humanities Sem 5 Sir J.J. College of Architecture • The Reason to choose this civic building is that it is located at the centre of Bhopal with different volumetric spaces and circular planning referring to Parliament building in Delhi and Sanchi Stupa. • As the structure is located at the hill top, it is visible from far and evokes a curiosity in ones mind due to the varying opening sizes and shape of the building. • The transition in the material blends in nicely and compliment each other and creates contrast. • The planning resembles the Nine square plan of Jawahar Kala Kendra, just that this time it is enclosed in a circle but the buffer spaces creating the magic altogether and making it unique. • The idea of garden within a garden, kund, veranda and courtyards blends with each other to create buffer open spaces with non-stereotypical civic building and creating better transition movement between spaces. • Striking features like the dome shape inspired from stupa, the welcoming entrance, visual and physical changing heights elevates the Modern architectural style that has sense of the Indian context. Charles Correa’s this structure becomes important in Bhopal state and MP with contributing factor of Location, Form and new notion of civic building.
