Christmas at the BFH

In Memory of Dr. Duane McDaniel The staff of Baptist Friendship House would like to remember Dr. Duane McDaniel and what he meant to us and this ministry. Dr. McDaniel served as the Executive Director for the New Orleans Baptist Association. During his time in New Orleans, he set up what he called a holistic missional strategy for glorifying God by proclaiming the gospel in word and deed. Dr. McDaniel supported our ministry and we are looking forward to furthering holistic ministry in New Orleans. Duane and his family joined us for our Thanksgiving Community Meal and was planning on attending many more events. Dr. McDaniel will always be in our hearts and we look forward to the day we will be with him again. Please be in prayer for his family, friends, and all the lives he touched throughout his life. Swamp Time Kay and Cherry at Heath Evans Foundation Event

On May 17 our staff had the opportunity to volunteer with Lagniappe Ministries at the annual Heath Evans Foundation Event. This year they hosted a softball game between the New Orleans Saints defense and offense. We are thankful for organizations such as the Heath Evans Foundation which helps families and children that are affected by sexual abuse. Events like this provide us with partnerships to support both our ministry and others.

June 6-July 22
Our summer program for girls ages 8 and up will kick off on June 6. The theme this summer is HUMAN (Helping U Meet A Need) and our main verse is Romans 12:5. Each week will be devoted to a different issue from WMUs Project HELP. Please be in prayer for the summer missionaries as they present these issues to the girls, that they will have the words to say and it will have an impact. Activities will include: devotion, dance, craft, games, health and nutrition education, team building exercises, and financial planning.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make our health fair a huge success. Around 100 people in the community were able to receive basic health screenings., food, and other giveaways. Baptist Friendship House aims to minister to the whole person and this is just one of the many opportunities we have to do that.

We earned just over $50.00 from Good-Search and GoodShop from our supporters over the last year. This year for our back to school party we will be in great need of back packs and composition (spiralless) notebooks to give away. We would also greatly appreciate Wal-mart gift cards- which would reduce shipping costs for donations. Please pray for our students as they enjoy summer break . All of our families continue to work towards transitioning into their own homes. It has been a blessing to see them grow spiritually through evening devotions. One child volunteers to pray each night for the prayer requests mentioned. We enjoyed two outings with our families in the Spring.: the Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula, LA and a hike at Jean Laffite Swamp. We are thankful for opportunities to take trips with our families and allow them to experience things they may not have the opportunity to otherwise.

Our UP2HOPE girls loved two fun spa days that were hosted by a great group of volunteers in January and March. It is important for us to maintain the relationships with the girls throughout the year and not just during the summer months. We are able to see the girls as they continue to grow and meet any needs they have throughout the year.
We would like to thank you for your continued support in our efforts to collect Campbell Soup labels, and we will continue collecting labels. We were able to send in nearly 10,000 points in soup labels this month.

Each year we host a Fall Festival for the families in our community. We set up games and activities for the kids and allow the adults a time of fellowship with one another. This year our greatest need for our Fall Festival will be paper products, plastic forks and spoons, and extra large trash bags. We will also be in need of Wal-mart gift cards to purchase the food we will serve at this event. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about how you can help.

Jessica Dawson

Jessica is the new US/C2 Missionary on staff. She comes to us from Lawton, Oklahoma where she is a recent graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University. She received her Bachelors degree in Family and Community Services. Jessica has two sisters. She hopes to attend graduate school one day but is patiently waiting for Gods direction. We are thankful for Jessica and her willingness to serve here in the heart of New Orleans.
