Exercise: Control Network Calculations & Adjustment

Question 1: Levelling

Figure 1 illustrates the levelling carried out started at BM J11 and BM J12. Observations are made in
sequence from instrument stations I1, I2 and I3. Given that Reduced Level of BM J1111 is 36.565 m and
BM J1110 is 39.630 m.

i) Book the observations.


ii) Calculate the final reduced level using rise and fall method. Show the arithmetical checking.
iii) Conclude on the accuracy of the work.

Question 2: Traverse

i) COMPLETE the traverse booking form.


ii) Check data of the face left and face right.
iii) Check the closed bearing (observed vs. actual).
iv) Calculate the C corrections.
v) Calculate the latitude and departure.
vi) Calculate the traverse Linear Misclosure, and state whether the traverse accuracy is acceptable or
not.
vii) Calculate the adjusted latitude and adjusted departure.
viii) Calculate the coordinates of each station (X,Y), given the coordinates of Station 2 = 1000mN,
1000mE.
ix) Calculate the area of the traverse (m2).
