IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the What are your favorite dishes? What about your favorite
new lesson dessert? The dishes and desserts mentioned are mouth-
watering examples of mixture.
What is a mixture ?

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson What is a mixture ? Show a Collage of the Different Samples
of Mixture.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new What do Mayonnaise, ink, glue, muddy water, air, smoke and
lesson chopsuey have in common?
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new From your activity done yesterday,
skills #1
a. What are the states of the materials used that were
combined with water?
b. What happened to these materials when mixed with
water?
Yes, you are right!
The materials which are solids dissolve in water. In
science, we call the physical combination of two or more
pure substances as mixture.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new What is your usual breakfast? I am sure your breakfast
skills #2 consists of hot coffee and “pan de sal”. Sometimes you
might even put sandwich spread or cheese spread on the
bread.
What do you observe when you prepare your coffee and
sandwich?
There are two major types of mixtures:
a. Heterogeneous mixtures – means “different” you can
see the different parts (phases) of the mixture easily, or it
is a one-phase system where all parts show the same
characteristics/properties throughout.
b. Homogeneous mixtures – means “the same” you
cannot see the different parts (phases) of the mixtures or
it consists of one or more phases where each part retains
its original properties.
F. Developing mastery (leads to Formative How many phases can be seen after mixing the following
Assessment 3) systems? and Classify the following as either
homogeneous or heterogeneous
1. garlic, vinegar, salt, pepper (Ans: 3)
2. flour, baking soda, egg yolk, water (Ans: 1)
3. cooking oil and vinegar (Ans: 2)
4. juice, water, sugar
5. fish “bagoong”
G. Finding practical applications of concepts Our environment provides us with naturally occurring
and skills in daily living chemical systems like water, soil and air, which may be
homogeneous or heterogeneous. Water plays an
important role not only in life processes, but also in the
environment. We grow our plants in soil, which gives us
clean air. People throw much waste into these systems
and find themselves affected by this careless behaviour.

1. Can you suggest ways by which we can safeguard the

environment, particularly water, soil and air in order to
maximize their uses?
H. Making generalizations and abstractions What are the two major types of mixtures? Differentiate
about the lesson a homogeneous from a heterogeneous.
I. Evaluating learners A. Multiple Choice.
Choose the letter of the best answer. Write the chosen
letter on a separate sheet of paper.
1. Which of the following best describes a mixture?
a. It exhibits Tyndall effect.
b. It is a homogeneous system.
c. Its components are present in fixed proportion.
d. It is a physical combination of two or more
substances.
2. Which is an example of mixture?
a. dew c. iodine crystals
b. sugar d. rubbing alcohol
3. Which does NOT belong to the group?
a. smoke c. mayonnaise
b. soft drink d. toothpaste
Classify the following as either homogeneous or
heterogeneous
4. powder detergent
5. bottled soda (soft drinks)
J. Additional activities for application or Classify the following mixtures as to its type.
remediation 1. milk
2. paint
3. mongo seeds in water
4. brine
5. sago at gulaman
V. REMARKS

VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No. of learners who require additional
activities for remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of
learners who have caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked
well? Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my
principal or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish to share with other
teachers?
