Film Poster Draft

• I am aiming to make a Teen Coming of Age

film poster with the topic centering mental
health, seen in my short film. I already started
with centering mental health in my poster by
using found images of smoke from the Internet. I
duplicated both of these found images and tried
to fill the whole background with it, but they
were slightly two different colours of the smoke
because their two different images. So, I went to
the blending options and used the magic tool
eraser to add blend the two colour together, as
well as filling in the gaps that the duplicates did
not fill in the background. These tools gave the
background the long outcome I was looking for,
as it symbolised the conflict inside his head and
how volatile his mind is by the tools giving the
smoke a 3D effect.
Composite
On all three of my original photos, I
used lasso tool and quick selected them
out of their original backgrounds and
deposited them on my film poster draft.
I then used the eraser tool to erase the
side character's heads, except for the
main character, to exhibit his mental
health.
Blending
I saw that my original photos, applied on my
poster background, looked like an obvious
cut out, and not suited. I went to the
blending options on all three and chose the
drop shadow effect, this gives the poster a
realistic, professional look to the poster,
perfect for a film advertisement.
Title Design
I duplicated my title layer "The Thought"
and linked the two layers together and went
to blending options and selected gradient
overlay. Once I was on the effect, I colour
graded my duplicate layer and made it white.
Then I overlapped the two titles together,
this gave the title a Teen Coming of Age vibe,
the effect also made the title eye-catching.
Tagline/Credits/Date
I added credits to my film poster below the
key image, because Warner Bros and
Universal are behind the makings of my film,
I added their logos at the bottom of my
poster, on each corner. I noticed that the
color of the company logos did not match
the colour scheme and vibe of the poster, I
colour filled them both grey. Furthermore, I
added my release date at the bottom of my
credits, I used Ctrl+T to enlarge the date so
that the audience can see when the film is
coming out.
Finally, I made my tagline and placed it just
below the title, I then colour filled the tagline
and make it white. The tagline being white
still did not make it pop out or add to the
murky Teen vibe, so I went to blending
options and selected the outer glow effect.
This effect enhanced the Teen drama mystery
and created appeal for the audience.
Official Film Poster
As we can see by the end of this process,
photo drafts were removed and replaced by
my original images taken; I pieced the photos
by using the drop shadow effect. Afterwards,
I used gradient overlay to piece the two titles
together to create 3D effect, as well as outer
glow on my tagline. Overall, I believe I was
able to achieve the desired outcome using
photoshop tools I used, as I mentioned
before I aimed to make a Teen Coming of Age
film poster that had a sub-genre that
centered around mental health. I centered
my film poster around mental health by using
the eraser tool to erase his friend's heads,
along with using smoke to reflect the main
character's mental illness, foreboding how it
causes a strain in his school life and friends.
