Joseph prestley Who discovered oxygen identify the role of sir in the green plant

Jan ingenhousz made same setup as prestley to understand the importance of sunlight

Aquatic plant in bright sunlight and noticed that the small bubbles released by the
green part of the plant were oxygen by this we can understand only plant can
release oxygen

Grana is the membranous structure responsible for traping sunlight which is involve
in the production of ADP and NADPH this is called light reaction.

Stroma enzymatic reaction incorporating Co2 take place leading to the production of
suger molecules this reaction does not depend on light reaction but depends on the
product of light reaction ATP and NADP.It is called as Dark Reaction.

Leaves come in many shapes of green this indicates that there are many pigment in a
leaf.
A chromotographic analysis of green leaves shows that these different colours are
due to 4 pigments chlorophyll a,chlorophyll b,Xanthophylls and Carotenoids.
Chlorophyll a:
It appears as bright green or blue green in the chromatogram.
chlorophyll b:
It appears yellow green.
Xanthophylls:
It appears as yellow.
Carotenoids:
It appears as yellow to yellow orange.

All these pigment are involve in photosynthesis.

Each pigment has capability to absorb light at different wavelengths.
When we create it as a graph it shows that the capacity to absorb chlorophyll is
between 400 and 700 nanometers which is the visible light spectrum.Chlorophyll a is
the chief pigment involved in photosynthesis.chlorophyll b,Xanthophylls and
Carotenoids also trap energy but they transfer it into chlorophyll a.This help the
plant to utilize a wider range of wavelength from incident light and also protect
cholorophyll a from photo oxidation.
