BANKING BEHAVIOUR AMONG COMMON PEOPLE –
AN ANALYSIS
A STUDY OF FINANCIAL INCLUSION AND BANKING
BEHAVIOUR AMONG THE COMMON PEOPLE IN
VELLARADA PANCHAYATH

This chapter consists of data analysis and interpretation. The collected data are
analysed and interpreted for making meaningful judgement about the data. The area
under the study was limited to Vellarada panchayath. Fifty respondents are selected
from Vellarada panchayath through convenient sampling method. Questionnaire was
used to collect the primary data. The analysis and the interpretation of data for using
simple mathematical and statistical techniques like percentage, average, mean etc.

The result of the analysis is shown below.

Gender

The table 4.1 shows the gender details of the respondents.

The table 4.1 shows that out of 50 respondents 56% were female and 44% were male.
Age

The Table 4.2 shows the age details of the respondents.

The table 4.2 shows that most of the respondents belong to the age group of 31 – 40
(32%). Respondents below the age of 30 are about 32%. 28% of the respondents are
of the age between 41 and 50. 6% of the respondents belong to the age of 50 and 60.
Only 2 of the respondents ie 4% are above the age of 60.

Educational Qualification

The Table 4.3 shows the information about the educational qualifications of
respondent that is, no formal education, Up to 7th standard, Secondary, Higher
Secondary, UG or PG and above.

The table 4.3 shows that most of the respondents (28%) have only studied to 7th
standard. 26% of the respondents do not have any formal education. 9 of the
respondents have a secondary level education. 14% of the respondents are have a
higher secondary education and 8% have achieved an UG. Only 3 of the total
respondents have achieved a PG and above.

Occupation

The Table 4.4 shows the information about the occupation of the respondents.
They included Daily Wagers, Self Employed, Businessmen, Private Job, Government
employees and No Job.

The table 4.4 shows that more than half of the total respondents (52%) work
on daily wages basis. 20% of the respondents currently have no job. 12% of the
respondents have a private job. 8% of the respondents are self-employed. 3 of the
respondents have a Government job and one of the respondents is doing a business.

Marital status

The Table 4.5 shows the details about the marital status of the respondents.

The Table 4.5 shows that 70% of the respondents are married. 16% of
the respondents are widows. 7 of the respondents that is 14% are single.
Annual Income

The table 4.6 shows the details about the annual income of the respondents.

The Table 4.6 shows that 80% of the respondents have income below
5000Rs. 14% of the respondents have the income between 5000rs and 10000 rs.
Only 7% of the respondents have an income above 6%.
Responsibility of money management

The table 4.7 shows the details whether the money management
responsibility of the family is vested with the male member or the female
member or done by both of them.

The Table 4.7 shows that in 50% of respondent families both the male
and female members have the money management responsibility. In 26% of the
families the money management is done by the female members. In 24% of the
families, this is done by the male member.
Awareness about bank and bank related services

The table 4.8 shows the details of awareness about bank and bank related
services of the respondents.

The table 4.8 shows that 80% of respondent were aware about bank and
bank related services and rest of 20% not aware about the bank and bank related
services.
Bank Account

The Table 4.9 shows the details about how many of the respondents have a bank
account.

The Table 4.9 shows that 100% of the respondents have a bank account.
Bank in which Account is maintained

The table 4.9.1 shows the details about the banks in which the accounts
are maintained by the respondents. State Bank of India, Federal Bank, Union
Bank, Gramin Bank and Cooperative Bank are the common banks in Amboori.

The Table 4.9.1 shows that out of the 50 respondents 36% have an
account in the Federal bank, 30% (15) have an account in the State bank of India
10 of the respondents have an account in the cooperative bank. 10% of the
respondent have account in the Gramin account. Only 2 of the respondents have
a account in the Union Bank.
Whether maintaining more than one account

The Table 4.10 shows whether the respondents are maintaining accounts
in more than one bank or not.

The Table 4.10 shows that more than half of the respondents, who have a
bank account, are currently maintaining accounts in more than one bank. 44% of
the respondents are not having an account in more than one bank.

The Table 4.10.1 shows that among the respondents who are maintaining
more than one bank account,32.1% are having accounts in the private sector
banks. 28.6% are having an account in the public and cooperative sector bank.
25% are maintaining their accounts in the public sector banks. 7.1% are
maintaining accounts in private and public sector and cooperative sectors each.
