CARGOWORTHY CONTAINER INSPECTION AND

REPAIR STANDARD

REV: 18MAY17

The Cargoworthy Sale Container:

Definitions

There are two grades for Cargo Worthy:

1. CWCA – Grade 1: Higher cosmetic quality, unit capable of multiple trips.

All Grade 1 cargoworthy containers will be required to have a 30 month PES
sticker installed.

2. CWCA – Grade 2: Cargoworthy unit capable of at least one trip. All Grade 2
cargoworthy containers will be required to have an 18 month PES sticker
installed.

1
CWCA – Grade 1 Criteria

 Only units built 2003 or newer qualify, with possible exceptions for 2002
and older NYK, MOL, and K-line sale lease back offhires.
 No soft or delaminated floorboards.
 No undercutting corrosion or blistering rust areas on side, roof, front, or
door panels.
 The following photos depict conditions which would be unacceptable for a
Grade 1 container

Unacceptable exterior corrosion

2
Unacceptable interior condition

3
Unacceptable exterior contamination

The following is for Grade 2 cargoworthy

The Cargoworthy Sale Container is a container that has reached the end of its
operating life as a leasing quality container but is still in, at least, the minimal
condition required to carry cargo.

It is cargoworthy in the sense that it is wind & watertight and structurally sound,
but it may not meet the cosmetic and interior condition expectations of the more
particular shippers, and it’s overall condition is such that it may only be expected
to carry a few more loads.

4
Triton’s Cargoworthy Sale Container Inspection Criteria:

Objectives

The objective of Triton’s inspection criteria is to ensure that the container meets
the minimal standards necessary to carry cargo while, at the same time, avoiding
investments in cosmetic repairs that are not necessary for the carriage of the
majority of general cargo nor life-extension repairs that will not be paid back in
the short, remaining operating life of the container.
