How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

☒ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

When beginning this lesson, I will first set a goal for my students to achieve. I will have it
written on the board for all students to refer to. I will begin by asking if anyone already knows
the difference between living and nonliving things. We will have a brief introduction
discussion to get the students interested wight the topic. We will then watch the and listen to

the digital book, “Am I Alive?” and reflect afterwards. I will then have them work on a work
sheet to labeling and coloring the objects based off if they are alive or not alive. We will then
go over the technology tool and how to navigate it. I will get students into groups of 2 to have
them create their own digital book about living and nonliving things. During this time, I will
walk around and work with students that need additional help. We will then watch each
groups books and I will provide feedback one on one with the groups. We will then conclude
the lesson by reviewing what we learned to make sure students fully understand.

Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
Once I put the students I their groups, they will begin brainstorming. They will need to
complete a worksheet with illustrations to plan for their book. Once they complete the
worksheet, they can begin their book with the co-use of technology. They can use pictures
from the web or upload pictures of their drawings for the book. They do not need to include
text, but they will need to do a voice over. The class will have time limits on each activity
within this lesson. There will be a visual timer located in the front of the class for students to
keep an eye on while working through each assignment. This ensures that they stay focus and
on track to complete their work.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

PowerPoint is a great technology tool that supports all students in learning by teaching and
learning with technology and active learning. This tool supports and enhances students
learning experience through visuals, colors, animations, and audios throughout the
presentation of the eBook. PowerPoint is an engaging software tool that keeps students
interested in the lesson. Expression is shown by allowing students to express their knowledge
and creativity by creating their own eBook using PowerPoint.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

After designing this lesson idea, how do you feel the activities you created will impact student
learning? The activities provided in this lesson idea impact students learning by the variety of
learning opportunities. There are multiple different types of activities to ensure that all
students are receiving what they need to best understand the content. I look forward to
seeing how each group of students creates their own storyline and book. This activity allows
students to show their knowledge and creativity to their peers.
