Summary:

The purpose of this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN is to do, as a first precautionary measure, a repetitive visual
inspection of:
- The rear transmission bearing support
- The frame and the skin in the area of the bearing support.

Reason for last Revision:

The purpose of the revision 1 is to add a visual inspection of the rivets of the rear transmission bearing support
located under the Teflon tape on the tailboom.

Compliance:

It is mandatory to comply with this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN.

1. PLANNING INFORMATION

Helicopters EC130 version T2 POST MOD 074581.

NOTE

The modification 074581 consists to define a new tailboom.

1.C. REASON

Revision 0:

Airbus Helicopters was recently informed about a case of degradation of the bearing support
P/N 350A23-0875-00 of the rear transmission shaft with loss of attachment rivets on the tailboom
POST MOD 074581.
The investigation is in progress and the root cause of the bearing support degradation is not known at this
stage.
As a first precautionary measure, Airbus Helicopters requests a repetitive visual inspection of:
- The rear transmission bearing support
- The frame and the skin in the area of the bearing support.
Based on investigation outcomes, additional measures can follow.

Revision 1:

Airbus Helicopters was informed of a case of loose countersunk head of the lateral rivets of the bearing
support. In normal configuration, these heads are masked by a Teflon tape.
The purpose of the revision 1 is to add a visual inspection of the rivets of the rear transmission bearing
support located under the Teflon tape on the tailboom.

Revision 1 of this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN has no effect on the execution of the Revision 0 of this
ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN.

1.D. DESCRIPTION

This ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN describes how to make sure that there is no missing, loose or sheared
rivet on the bearing support of the rear transmission and no visible cracks in the area.

1.E.1. Compliance at H/C manufacturer level

Helicopters/installed equipment or parts:

a) Comply with paragraph 3. except the paragraphs 3.B.2.c. and 3.B.2.d., of this
ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN before the next flight or not more than 7 days (the first limit you meet is
applicable) after you receive the revision 0 this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN (refer to the issue date on
the page footer).

Then,

Comply with paragraph 3., except the paragraphs 3.B.2.c. and 3.B.2.d., every ALF (After Last Flight) of the
day.

b) Comply with paragraphs 3.B.1., 3.B.2.c. and 3.B.2.d. of this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN before
10 Fight Hours (FH) or not more than 7 days (the first limit you meet is applicable) after you receive
revision 1 of this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN (refer to the issue date on the page footer).

Then,

Comply with paragraph 3. except the paragraph 3.B.2.c., every ALF.

applicable) after you receive the revision 0 this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN (refer to the issue date on
the page footer).

Then,

Comply with paragraph 3., except the paragraphs 3.B.2.c. and 3.B.2.d., every ALF (After Last Flight) of the
day.

b) Comply with paragraphs 3.B.1., 3.B.2.c. and 3.B.2.d. of this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN before 10 Fight
Hours (FH) or not more than 7 days (the first limit you meet is applicable) after you receive revision 1 of
this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN (refer to the issue date on the page footer).

Then,

Comply with paragraph 3. except the paragraph 3.B.2.c., every ALF.

The technical information contained in this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN Revision 0 was approved on
October 27, 2021 under the authority of EASA Design Organization Approval No. 21J.700 for
civil version helicopters subject to an Airworthiness Certificate.

The technical information contained in this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN Revision 1 was approved on
December 16, 2021 under the authority of EASA Design Organization Approval No. 21J.700 for
civil version helicopters subject to an Airworthiness Certificate.

1.G. MANPOWER

Airbus Helicopters recommends that the personnel who will do this ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN have this
qualifications:

1 Mechanical Technician
or
1 Pilot with the correct training and accreditation in compliance with the local maintenance regulations in
force, for compliance with paragraph 3. except the paragraph 3.B.2.c.
or
1 pilot-owner of the helicopter for compliance with paragraph 3.,
except the paragraph 3.B.2.c. : refer to EASA regulation and
part M.A.803 Appendix VIII (List of inspections that can be done by a pilot-owner) or to equivalent local
regulations.

The man-hours are an estimate given for information only and for a standard helicopter configuration.

- Estimated Man-hours: 30 minutes for the Mechanical Technician or the Pilot for visual inspection.
- Estimated Man-hours: 30 minutes for the Mechanical Technician to remove the Teflon tape.
- Estimated Man-hours: 30 minutes for the Mechanical Technician to replace the rivets.

The helicopter downtime is an estimate given for information only and for a standard helicopter configuration.

- The estimate of the helicopter downtime is 30 minutes for visual inspection.


- The estimate of the helicopter downtime is 30 minutes to remove the Teflon tape.
- The estimate of the helicopter downtime is 30 minutes to replace the rivets.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

3.A. GENERAL

Refer to Work Card 20-02-04-601 (MTC), read and comply with the general instructions for riveting
acceptance requirements.

3.B. WORK STEPS

3.B.1. Preliminary steps

- Install appropriate access equipment.


- Open tailboom fairing to enable visual access to the upper bearing support area.
- Open the battery door to enable visual access to the lower bearing support area.

3.B.2. Procedure

3.B.2.a. Visual inspection of the upper bearing support area (Figure 3, Details D, E and F)

- Make sure that there is no missing, loose or sheared rivet (b) or (d) on the rear transmission bearing
support (a) with the light source (zz).
- Make sure that there is no visible cracks on the skin in the rivets areas with the light source (zz).
- Comply with paragraph 3.B.2.e.

3.B.2.b. Visual inspection of the lower bearing support area (Figure 3, Detail B)

- Make sure that there is no missing, loose or sheared rivet (b) on the rear transmission bearing support (a)
with the light source (zz).
- Make sure that there is no visible cracks on the frame and on the skin in the rivets areas with the
light source (zz).
- Comply with paragraph 3.B.2.e.

3.B.2.c. Removal of the Teflon tape from the tailboom (Figure 1)

Only the LH side is described. Perform the RH side as per the same operational procedure.

PAY ATTENTION NOT TO DAMAGE THE


TAILBOOM WITH THE CUTTER (yy).

- Unstick the Teflon tape (c) on the hatched area (A).


- Slip a protection (3) (not shown) between the Teflon tape (c) and the tailboom structure.

- Cut and remove the Teflon tape (c) on the hatched area (A) with the cutter (yy) (not shown).
- Clean the area (A), refer to the Work Card 20-04-01-102 (MTC).

3.B.2.d. Visual inspection of the rivets head of the rear bearing support under the Teflon tape (Figure 2)

Only the LH side is described. Perform the RH side as per the same operational procedure.

- Make sure that there is no missing, loose or sheared rivet (d) on the rear transmission bearing support (a)
with the light source (zz).

NOTE 1

A loose rivet is a rivet with black mark or missing paint


around the rivet head, refer to the Figure 2.

3.B.2.e. Interpretation of the results

- If there is no missing, no loose and no sheared rivet and no crack:

- If there is at least one missing, loose or sheared rivet:

3.B.2.f. Replacement of one rivet (Figure 3)

Comply with this paragraph for each missing or loose or sheared rivet.

- Remove the rivet (b) and /or (d).


- Make sure that the rivet hole is in accordance with diameter, pitch and edge distance, refer to the
Work Card 20-02-04-401 (MTC).
- If the rivet hole is not in accordance with diameter or pitch or edge distance:
. Stop the flights.

- If necessary, do the Alodine touch-ups, refer to the Work Card 20-90-05-401 (MTC).
- Replace the rivet (b) with a new rivet (2) and/or the rivet (d) with a new rivet (1),
refer to the work Card 20-02-04-402 (MTC).
- Do the protection touch-ups, refer to the Work Card 20-04-05-402 (MTC).
- Comply with paragraph 3.B.3.

CAUTION

THE REPLACEMENT OF THE RIVETS (B) or (D)


DOES NOT STOP COMPLIANCE WITH THE
PARAGRAPH 3. EVERY ALF.

3.B.3. Final steps

CAUTION

PAY ATTENTION TO THE CORRECT LOCKING OF


DOOR AND FAIRING.

- Close and lock the battery door.


- Close and lock the tailboom fairing.
- Remove appropriate access equipment.
- Continue the flights.
