Description of the Agency, Mission, and Community:

Agency/Community: Dress for Success Michigan is a non-profit organization that provides


opportunities for women to obtain professional attires to achieve economic independence. Dress
for Success can maintain its operations through the assistance of partnerships with numerous
companies, monetary contributions, clothing donations, and volunteers. “Since starting
operations in 1997, Dress for Success has expanded to almost 150 cities in 25 countries and has
helped more than 1.2 million women work towards self-sufficiency.” (Dress for Success, n.d)
Dress for Success Michigan also offers three client services that include suiting, employment
retention, and job training. These programs empower and motivate women when searching for
employment.

Mission: “The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic
independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to
help women thrive in work and in life.” (Dress for Success, n.d.)

Description of the Project and the Need that the Project will fill:

The goal of this AS-L project is to aid Dress for Success Michigan by contributing to the process
of planning events. I will be doing so through marketing and event planning at the Dress for
Success office every Wednesday. In this project, my focus will be the Career Day Pop Up at
Briarwood. When marketing the events, we want to reach the community, but hopefully gain the
attention of college students and other merchants. By increasing the amount of marketing, we
will also be able to bring in more donations and volunteers. This will be done through creating
flyers and posters. I will also be contacting other vendors and merchants at Briarwood for
sponsorships and donors because it will hopefully bring more traffic in.

Project Goals:
 Increase awareness of event through marketing
 Create samples of flyers
 Partner with brands/donors from Briarwood
 Create a safe and comfortable environment for the pop-up venue
 Build deep and long connections with members of the community

Student Responsibilities:

 Design flyers/posters
 Event planning
 Visit venue
 Contact brands/donors
 Set up event
 Attend weekly meetings with both directors

Student Learning Objectives:

 To be able to respond to a wide range of communication needs in the community


 To gain leadership skills
 To improve skills with working with others
 To better the building of my networking skills
 To learn how to successfully plan a non-profit event

Timeline:

 June 1st: Meet with organization for tasks and discuss timeline

 June 1st: Visit Briarwood pop-up location
