LAB # 03
WIRED AND WIRELESS NETWORK

OBJECTIVE
Familiarization of transmission medium with wired and wireless network scenario.

HOME ASSIGNMENT
Q1: Which standardization organization has standardized the cable configuration of UTP
(unshielded twisted pair) cable?
ANSWER

The EIA/TIA (Electronic Industry Association/Telecommunication Industry Association) has

established standards of UTP and rated six categories of wire (additional categories are
emerging).

Q2: On which pins of Cross cable and Straight cable the signals can be receive and transmit explain
through an example and figure? What is the usage of that signal in computer communication?

ANSWER

As shown in the figure it receives data on pin 1 and 2 and transmit data from pin 3 and 6, Basically
it’s based on the type of end devices, and it can be made in two ways.

For Example: used for same devices Switch to Switch, Computer to Computer etc.

SIGNALS:
Digital signals are generally utilized in correspondence systems where digital transmission can
move data over point to point or point to multipoint transmission channels, for example, copper
wires, optical strands, remote correspondence media, capacity media, or PC transports.

Q3: Explain SSID, Non-Overlapping Wi-Fi Channels and different WLAN Standards in Wireless
scenario.
ANSWER

SSID:
SSID stands for Service Set Identifier and is your network’s name. If you open the list of Wi-Fi
networks on your laptop or phone, you’ll see a list of SSIDs. Wireless router or access points
broadcast SSIDs so nearby devices can find and display any available networks.

NON-OVRLAPPING WI-FI CHANNELS:

Let's take an example of 2.4 GHz band, where each channel is allotted 20 MHz and separated by
5 MHz Considering the 2.4 GHz band is only 100 MHz wide, the 11 channels of 20 MHz overlap
with one another. This is what causes the interference on your network and a lag in your WIFI’s
performance. Opposite to that (non-overlapping channels) 5 GHz has many channels then 2.4 GHz
so this result in better performance as the channels is providing equal distribution.
