EVAPORATION

• Evaporation means simply vaporization from the surface of a liquid.

Vaporization of liquid below its boiling point is called evaporation.
• A practical definition of evaporation is “the removal of liquid from a solution
by boiling the solution in a suitable vessel and withdrawing the vapor, leaving a
concentrated liquid residue”
• This means that heat will be necessary to provide the latent heat of
vaporization and, in general the rate of evaporation is controlled by the rate of
heat transfer
EVAPORATION

• In evaporation, the thick liquid is the valuable product and the vapor is condensed
and discarded.
• Liquor characteristics/properties are necessary entity in the judgment in designing
and operating evaporators such as;
• Concentration
• Solubility
• Foaming
• Temperature sensitivity
• Temperature & Pressure
• Scale & Materials of Construction
METHODS OF OPERATION

• Single Effect Evaporator

• Forward-feed Multiple Effect Evaporator
• Backward-feed Multiple Effect Evaporator
• Parallel-feed Multiple Effect Evaporator
FORWARD-FEED MULTIPLE EFFECT
BACKWARD-FEED MULTIPLE EFFECT
PARALLEL-FEED MULTIPLE EFFECT
