Materials and Tools


 Yarn: 1 or more colors.
I used Catania “Original” in beige, bleu, orange.
Change of colors are only suggestions, you can choose your own color patterns.
 Crochet hook in accordance with the yarn you use.
I used a 2.50mm hook.
 Stuffing: I use polyester wool and a chopstick to stuff the doll.
 Tapestry needle, scissors.
 Safety eyes 7.00 mm.
 Stitch marker.
I used thin black thread.
 Black embroidery thread for the nose.

Abbreviations
mr = Magic ring
ch = Chain
dc = Double crochet
tr= Treble crochet
st = Stitch
slst = Slip stitch
sc = Single crochet
() = Parentheses are used for repeated patterns of stitches, example: (2 sc, inc) x3 means
repeat 3 times (2 single crochet and one increase).
inc = 2 sc in the same stitch
dec = 2 sc together, but working in the front loops only
inc tr=2 tr in the same stitch

This pattern is written in US terminology and worked in a spiral unless otherwise stated. Kitty’s head,
body and tail are crocheted as one piece from top to bottom. Other parts are made separately.

HEAD
Use the 2.50 mm hook.

● Note:
I use invisible decrease which is worked in the front loops only. Please see the photo tutorial I
made for it at the last part of the pattern.
Attach the eyes to the head between rounds 17 and 18 with 10 stitches apart (fig 3).
● Note: to attach the eyes in the center of the head, skip 16 stitches from the beginning, then
attach the first eye. Skip the next 10 stitches and attach the second eye.

Stuff the head firmly (fig 7, 8 and 9).
● Note:
Add extra stuffing at the bottom part of the head to make it full.

How to change the color of yarn:
With the two loops from the previous yarn on the hook (fig 10), wrap around the new yarn

Stuff the tail lightly (fig 16).

Close the tail with 14 sc across both sides. Cut the yarn leaving a tail.

Use the remaining tail to make the tail with a needle. Fold the tip on the center to form the tail
(fig 18). Make a stitch (fig 19) and bring the needle on the other side (fig 20).
Make a few more stitches to secure the shape.

SKIRT

Lay the kitty mermaid at the facing away from you, work on the remaining back loops of round
42. Insert your hook to first loop and pick up the yarn. Make a sl st in each loops (fig 21, 22, 23).
Join at the end of round.
Round 2: BLO: 3 starting chains, 18 dc, 1 inc tr, 1 tr in next loop +3 ch in the same loop (fig 24),
1 slst, 3 ch +1 tr in the same loop, 1 inc tr, 15 dc (fig 25).

Stuff the arms lightly, and then close it with 2 sc across both sides. Cut the yarn leaving a tail for
sewing.

FLOWER:

In magic ring: crochet 5 chains, turn your crocheting, in second chain from hook: 4 sl st (fig 26,
27).
Do a sl st between petals.
You should make 7 petals.

Don’t cut the yarn, continue to make 56 chains. Then yarn tail to sew it onto the head.

BODY FLOWER

Count up 6 rounds from the skirt and 5 stitches in between (fig 29). Insert the two pins, they
will be the starting points.
Insert the needle at the starting point and bring it through 3 rounds.
Place the working thread behind the needle and pull the needle through the loop (fig 30).
Insert the needle again where it came through (fig 32) and bring it to starting point. Repeat the
process again (fig 33, 34) to complete the petals of the flower (fig 35, 36).
Make the second flower similarly (fig 36).

ASSEMBLING:

- Sew the ears on each side, see photos for placement (fig 38, 39).

- Sew the arms on either side of the body, just below the head.
- Embroider the nose and mouth.

How to make invisible decrease:

Insert your hook in the front loops (a) and then (b) (fig 1), go in the front loop (a) and in (b) (fig 2, 3).
Yarn over and pull through the front loops (a) and (b) (fig 4). Yarn over and pull through the 2 remaining
loops (fig 5).
