Disability”

Matters Taken:
The registration form for the webinar was sent to the Zoom Chatbox for us
to register as attendees of the webinar, which started at 2:00pm. The opening
program consist of the Prayer, National Anthem, PSU Hymn, and Pangasinan Hymn
to officially start the program.
Ma’am Kristine Dawn B. Dudang, RSW the SW120 & 122 Instructor of the
conductors of the event gave her Opening Remarks for the webinar. The
moderators entertained the attendees by asking them questions while waiting for
the arrival of the speaker. Then, the moderators hyped up the audience by
conducting an Ice Breaker. Lea Mae Columbres, a III BSSW Student, introduced the
speaker for the webinar, Ms. Gilie A. Maneclang, RSW a Social Welfare Officer II at
AVRC in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City. She spoke in the webinar about “Promoting
an Inclusive Environment for Persons with Disability”. She said that every person
has value and is treated with dignity in an inclusive society. All human rights are
based on this. Although our society has made significant strides in recent years,
handicapped persons and their families continue to face marginalization and
isolation. They are still being driven to the furthest reaches of society.
We as a society must adopt a new mindset and even start to modify our
worldview in order to get over this paradoxical circumstance. We may destroy
preconceptions and break down barriers that we have built up over time by having
an inclusive mindset and acting in that way.
Gloria Angela Canilang introduced the second speaker, Sir Aaron G. Garcia,
RSW, Social Welfare Officer 1 at AVRC in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City.
After the lecture proper, the facilitators conducted an open forum or Q & A
for the audience addressed to the speaker. Then, some of the audience were asked
to synthesize the webinar. The second to last part of the webinar program is
awarding certificates of appreciation to the speaker and certificates of gratitude to
the attendees. Lastly, the Closing Remarks of Marjorie Cuison one of the
conductors of the event and Photo Opportunities with the speaker.
Learning Insights:
Seeing a person with a handicap as a person and realizing that their
impairment does not define who they are and is merely an aspect of their
existence is the most crucial shift that has to happen in society. Like everyone
else, people with disabilities have aspirations, abilities, talents, heartbreak, and
feelings. Everybody's awareness of and interactions with those who have
impairments should be built around this. that everyone, even those with
impairments, has these characteristics.
Even if it might not be possible to achieve in a year or a decade, creating an
inclusive society is still attainable. Future generations will benefit from taking the
initial step and establishing an inclusive society. An inclusive society is
undoubtedly possible with the right education, understanding, and acceptance.
