Recommendation Recommendation
The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of online distance learning to the academic performance of BSOA students in laboratory subjects.
The diagram helps illustrate and maps out the connection and process of the relevant variables of the study, it represents a system in three stages: input,
process, and output. Input includes the independent variable, "online distance learning of BSOA students"; and dependent variable, which is the "academic
performance in laboratory subjects". As the COVID-19 spread in early January 2020 it caused widespread disruption to academic institutions wherein more
than 188 countries had implemented closure of their schools and universities according to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. In
the Philippines, the Department of Education has applied distance learning modalities to ensure the continuity of learning while the Commission on High
Education implemented flexible learning system. In flexible learning students can choose between online, which uses technology and online classrooms for
instructions delivery which is divided into synchronous and asynchronous classes; offline, which refers to printed modules or digital media in storage devices;
and lastly blended learning which is the combination of online and offline modes of learning. Online distance learning require students to have a device to use
in synchronous and asynchronous classes. Since online distance learning does not require students to go to school physically, there are challenges and
difficulty that have risen in transition from traditional face-to-face class to online distance learning especially for the courses or subjects that require laboratories.
In connection, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration, a program in college that requires laboratory subjects that are skill-based wherein the use of
equipment and tools will help the students to develop technical skills and improve their competency. As it is already determined the cause of online distance
learning, the researchers wants to know the connection of online distance learning to the academic performance of BSOA students in laboratory subjects and
evaluate its effectiveness, as shown in the diagram, the independent variable and dependent variable will be supported by the theories and review of related
literature that are included in this study. Through the help of theories and related literature, the researchers could determine the factors affecting the online
distance learning and the factors affecting the academic performance in laboratories of subjects.
