Examine the ADDIE instructional design process below. What do

you observe with the steps? How about the relationship among the five steps.

ADDIE is an acronym, meaning each letter stands for a different phase for creating an effective learning
course. ADDIE stands for Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate. The model is intended to be completed
in sequence, from Analyze to Evaluation. However, ADDIE is designed to be a flexible, continuous improvement
and iterative process. The sequence of these phases and the ability to follow the principles of the ADDIE model
determines the success of any learning process. The five steps of the ADDIE model create a logical sequence of
actions that ensure that the newly designed learning process is clear, consistent, and can be evaluated through the
prism of specific measurable learning outcomes. The first step in the instructional design process is Analyze wherein
the focus is on the students. It is also here that the program matches the level of skill and intelligence that each
student shows. This is to ensure that what they already know won’t be duplicated, and that the focus will instead
be on topics and lessons that students have yet to explore and learn. In this phase, instructors distinguish between
what the students already know and what they should know after completing the course. The next step is Design
wherein the focus is on learning objectives, content, subject matter analysis, exercise, lesson planning, assessment
instruments used. The Develop stage starts the production and testing of the methodology being used in the
course. In this stage, instructors make use of the data collected from the two previous stages, and use this
information to create a course or program that will relay what needs to be taught to students. After
implementation of a course or program is over, an evaluation is done for instructional improvement. Throughout
the evaluation phase the instructor should ascertain whether problems relevant to the training program are solved,
and whether the desired objectives are met.
