A. Towing (Figures 201 and 202):

WARNING: IF THE HELICOPTER HYDRAULIC PUMPS ARE CAPPED OFF OR THE HYDRAULIC
HOSES ARE DISCONNECTED AT THE QUICK DISCONNECT FITTINGS, DO NOT
ALLOW THE ROTOR HEAD TO TURN. DAMAGE TO THE HYDRAULIC PUMP QUILL
COULD OCCUR.

CAUTION: THE HELICOPTER IS NOT TO BE TAXIED OR ANY PITCH APPLIED TO THE


BLADES DURING RUN UP WITH THE CARGO RAMP MAKING CONTACT WITH THE
GROUND.

CAUTION: TO ENSURE PROPER TRANSFER OF STRUCTURAL LOADING FORE-AND-AFT,


ACCESS PANELS, 92203-01108-044, 92203-01202-041, 92203-01202-044, AND
92201-03493-041, MUST BE INSTALLED WHEN HELICOPTER IS BEING TOWED OR
TAXIED. (REFER TO 53-70-00-900-001).

NOTE: Helicopter shall be towed from the nose landing gear using a tow bar.

(1) Remove all tiedowns and wheel chocks.

(2) Check that cabin door is closed. Disconnect static ground wire from helicopter.

(3) Check that external electrical power and/or hydraulic units are removed from proximity of heli-
copter.

(4) Station one crewman in cockpit to operate brakes.

CAUTION: DO NOT RELEASE PARKING BRAKE UNTIL AFTER TOW BAR IS SECURED
BETWEEN HELICOPTER AND TOWING VEHICLE.

CAUTION: TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSORS,


EXTREME CARE SHALL BE TAKEN WHEN USING THE TOW BAR.

(5) Raise the tow bar and attach it to the tow bar attaching point on the nose landing gear.

(6) Connect tow bar to tow vehicle.

(7) Depress the pilots toe pedals to release the parking brake.

(8) Station one or more crew members near helicopter to see that main rotor blades and fuselage
are not damaged when towing or taxiing in close quarters.

CAUTION: TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT AND/OR HELICOPTER, ENGINE(S)


MUST NOT BE OPERATING WHEN TOWING VEHICLE IS ATTACHED.

CAUTION: OBSERVE RECOMMENDED TYPICAL TAXI TURNING RADIUS WHEN TOWING


THE HELICOPTER (FIGURE 202).

(9) Towing speeds should be slow. Avoid sudden starts, stops, and short radius turns.

(10) For taxiing information, refer to the applicable ROTORCRAFT FLlGHT MANUAL, SA S92A-
RFM-XXX. Use the RFM applicable to the helicopter.

2. Aircraft towed on unpaved surface – Inspection

A. If aircraft is towed on unpaved surface, perform a gear up/gear down cycle test prior to resuming fur-
ther flight/taxiing operations. (Refer to 32-31-00-710-001).
