Statement of Purpose

My name is Akhil.P and I belong to Mannady a small town in Kerala, India. I started my schooling and
completed my secondary level of education from Govt. High school Mannady in 2012 and later I
completed my higher secondary education in science stream, from NSS higher secondary school,
Choorakkode in the year 2014. Since my childhood, I was very keen about tall and colossal buildings.
So, I decided to study civil engineering and went for a diploma, so that I could get more practical
knowledge. After completing diploma in 2017 from NSS Polytechnic college, Pandalam, I started
working as site supervisor with A to Z constructions at Ernakulam, Kerala. Since I did not find the
work conditions satisfactory, I had to leave the job after some months. At that point in time, I
thought upgrading myself would help me more in my future. In order to make myself competent and
to get a good job in my field of study, it was necessary to attain some software skills so I joined a
course to study AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds max software at CADD center, Adoor. After completing the
course in 2018, I got a job offer from another civil engineering firm named “FACET BUILDERS” to
work as a site engineer. I accepted the offer and started working there and continued to work till
2021.

Why this Course

When I evaluated myself, I felt I had adequate knowledge on the technical aspects of engineering
but at the same time, I had a long way to go to acquire sufficient knowledge on many topics that
would be expected of a modern professional engineer. So, I tried searching for a course which can
provide me the mastery of those and from my research, I found that a top-up program in
engineering is the course I was looking for. It has a syllabus that it is well organized and is one which
can provide good knowledge on computer simulation, lean manufacture and quality applications. It
also greatly focuses on working in a team to solve complex engineering problems and provides
insight on applications of engineering technology in new and innovative ways. I believe this course
will provide an in-depth knowledge of all these subjects which is both practically and academically
essential for the current and future demand of the engineering sector.

Why university of Northumbria

Once I have become decisive about the course, the next step was to choose a university. I started
researching on the best universities in Europe and finally found university of Northumbria which I
believe would be the perfect choice for me. The fact that this university cares more about students
and education rather than focusing on any other things impressed me the most. And learning is
organized around theory, practice, perception, reflection and improvement which help students to
utilize these concepts and approaches in their respective industry. In addition, the feedback from
some students have given me a clear idea of the quality of teaching and the dedication of the
teachers in this programme, that they are genuinely passionate about what they teach. So it is
without any doubt that university of Northumbria is the best institution to choose for doing a top-up
course in engineering.

Why UK

The United Kingdom is one of the most globalized nations. It is also a friendly and safe country and
among the few English-speaking countries in Europe. Students from throughout the world select the
UK as their destination for higher studies. Another important motive is that a large choice of
programmes that range from diplomas, undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees are
available in the Colleges and Universities of the UK. They provide courses that can be shorter and
more in-depth than you can find in other countries. The United Kingdom is a truly multicultural
society, with a great mix of people from different backgrounds. A wonderful environment is available
to get to know people from all over the world and seek inspiration from many different cultures. This
makes the United Kingdom a very attractive choice for higher education for international students.
Practical approach of teaching at UK Universities makes learning simpler and more interesting.
Taking into account all these factors, I am sure I will have a platform where I will be able to develop
my skills and exposure I have come across till now.

Future Plans

My short-term goal will be to concentrate on my studies and complete my course. Being a part of a
fast-growing nation, I think it would be best to study abroad to achieve a different perspective on
the subject and contribute it towards the betterment of my country. I would like to return to my
homeland once I finish my studies. I would like to work here in India so that I can build a healthier
and happy nation and this will be my lifetime goal. I will surely make my family proud. I strongly
believe that the top-up course in engineering will surely help me to achieve the future I have
envisioned for myself. I also believe that university of Northumbria is the cornerstone for my
triumphant future. It would be an honor to be part of the family of one of the top universities in
Europe.

Conclusion

I believe that I am a true achiever, who has improved and enhanced my capabilities at each stage in
life through hard work and practical knowledge. This has helped me emerge stronger and more
capable. I sincerely admit that all written above is with the best of my knowledge and true. I will
obey all rules of the university and country once I am there. I am a strong competitive candidate to
be in your esteemed University. I am very sure I will excel and justify my selection. I hope the
admission council will consider my application considering my positives.
