SOLID-STATE CHEMISTRY AND ITS APPLICATION CONSTRUCTION

INTRODUCTION
Solid state chemistry, also sometimes refered to as material chemistry, is the study of synthesis, structure, and
properties of solid phase materials, particularly but not exclusivelyof non molecular solids with a focus onthe th
synthesis of novel materials and thier characterisation

Lets take for example cement ; which is a binder , a substance used for construction that setss , hardens, adheres to other
materials to bind them togerther.Cement mixed with its aggregate produces concrete which is used in marsonry for
construction.

· Appart from the application mentioned above, ZnO can also be used in the concrete production. The
addition of ZnO improves the process time and the resistance of concrete to the action of water.

· Also, the addition of ZnO to cement slows down hardening and quenching I.e it reduces the gradual
evolution of heat, and also improves the whiteness and final strength of the cement. ZnO react with
silicates to produce zinc silicate which are water and fire resistant materials used as binders in paint s.
These fire resistant and adhesive substances are used in binding of cement used in construction
industries.

· Steel is another important contruction material , which is an alloy of Fe with typically few tenths of
percent of carbon to improve its strength and fracture resistance compared to Fe . Many other
elements may be present or added. Because of its great tensile strength and low cost , steel is used in
buildings , infrastructure , tools , ship construction , trains , just to name a few

· what of glass , is it not a solidn state state material ;a non crystaline ofen amorphous solid that has wide spread
practicals and decorrative uses for example window panes table wares and optics . although brittle ,silicate
glass is extremly durable and makes perfect decorations . the inert and impermeable nature of glass mak
it a steable and widely used material for food and drink packaging as glass bottles and jars with no side
effect.

IN CONCLUSION ; Solid state chemistry has greatly improve the world's science technology with no excepti
in different field the use of solid state materials in construction , electionics and other parts of chemistry that
studies and deals with material chemistry.
