Q.1 a. Obtain an expression for fringe width in wedge shaped thin film. 3 (CO1)

b. Show that the diameter of dark rings is directly proportional to the square root of 2 (CO1)
natural numbers.
c. An obtuse angle of Biprism is 170°40’ and refractive index is 1.55. A slit is illuminated 2 (CO1)
by a light situated at 0.12 m from Biprism and fringes are obtained at a distance of
0.98 m from it having fringe width of 5.8×10-4 m. Calculate wavelength of light used.
Q.2 a. Explain Joule free expansion experiment and find out relation for change in internal 3 (CO3)
energy for real gases.
b. Derive the relation between any two thermodynamic variables in adiabatic processes. 2 (CO3)

c. 2.5 kg of air experiences the three process cycle as shown in fig. Calculate net- 2 (CO3)
work.(R=0.287 kJ/Kg.K)

Q.3 a. Explain the working of a heat engine and what is the limitation on thermal efficiency? 3 (CO3)

b. How can the reverse Carnot cycle be used as a refrigeration cycle? Comment on its 2 (CO3)
analysis.
c. State Kelvin-Planck and Clausius statement of 2nd Law of thermodynamics. 1 (CO3)
