HYPNOSIS

A state of mental relaxation,

A state of consciousness with hyper
suggestibility

Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness

involving focused attention and reduced
peripheral awareness and an enhanced
capacity for response to suggestion.

HYPNOTHERAPY
Hypnotherapy is an art of enhancing capacity for
positive response to suggestion through the
power of sub-conscious mind in an environment of
focused attention and reduced peripheral
awareness.

KAPPASONIAN HYPNOSIS
Hypnosis is created by;

 An over load of message units

 Disorganizing inhibitory process (critical mind)
 Triggering our flight/flight mechanism and
creating hyper-suggestible state
 Providing access to subconscious mind

TEST FOR SUGGESTIBILITY
Finger spreading is used on the client
to test the suggestibility;
1. Position the client on chair
2. Explain that you are going to
test suggestibility
3. Lift up client’s arm and hand and
place the palm in front of face
10 inches away
4. Firmly hold the arm and elbow
and tap the middle finger 3-4
times and say,
“ I want you to start at your middle finger and when I let
go of your hand, your fingers will begin to separate”

Separating and separating, wider and wider, farther and

farther apart.
Say louder for physical suggestible and silently for
emotional suggestible

REPRESENTATIONAL SYSTEM

We experience the world around us

through our fives senses; Visual,
auditory, kinesthetic, gustatory and
olfactory.
It is these senses that are also known
as the representational systems
because they are the main ways that
represent, code, store and give meaning
or language to our experiences.

3. “Float out to Position #3 so you are above and before the event looking toward NOW.
Make sure you are before any chain of events that led to that specific event. Ask
yourself, ‘Where are the emotions?” (They can tell you outloud of keep them silent.)
4. “Float down inside the event, to Position #4, looking through your own eyes and check
on the emotions. Are they there? Or have they disappeared? Good, go back to
Position #3. Go back to NOW above your Time Line only as quickly as you can let go

PRINCIPLE OF LIKE TO DISLIKE
TECHNIQUE

Like and dislike technique work on the

principle of;
• Changing sub-modalities of the
experience.
• When the dislike is really intense
• When two experiences are quite
similar.

For example, Coke is similar in many ways to
cough syrup.
If you love coke and hate cough syrup, mapping
the sub-modalities of the cough syrup onto the
coke will tend to make you hate coke.

SUB-MODALITY ELICITATION

Consider sub-modalities from the major

representational systems - Visual,
Kinesthetic and Auditory. Let's start with
some sample questions for the visual
modality:-
1.Do you have a picture?
2.Is it black-and-white or color?
3.Is it bright or dim?
4.Near or far?
5.Associated or dissociated?
6.Still picture or a movie?
7.3D or flat?
8.Focused or defocussed?

MAP ACROSS THE CONTRASTING
SUB-MODALITIES

To complete the process we

map the contrasting sub-
modalities from the substance
the person doesn't like on to
the substance they do like - in
this case we map the sub-
modalities of cough syrup
onto Coke.

TIPS FOR SUB-MODALITY
INTERVENTION

• Elicit quickly – faster than the client’s

conscious mind would like you to process
• Find the drivers, the key sub-modalities.
• Always use the sub-modality checklist.
• If you need to work quickly, just use the visual
sub-modalities.
• Use hypnotic approach
• Prefer the client on recliner with closed eye.
• Do the session in lights off.
