General Emotional State or Mood is distorted or

inconsistent with your circumstances and interferes


with your ability to function. You may be Extremely
Sad, Empty or Irritable (Depressed), or you may
have Periods of Depression Alternating with being
Excessively Happy (Mania).

Depression:-
Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common
and serious medical illness that negatively affects
how you feel, the way you think and how you act.
Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes
feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in
activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of
emotional and physical problems and can decrease
your ability to function at work and at home.
There are two types of Depression Major Depressive Disorder & Dysthemic Disorder
Bipolar Disorder:-

Bipolar Disorder is Mood Disorder characterized by Mood


Swings from Maniac Episodes to Depressive Episodes in
the same patient at different times and usually
accomplished by abnormalities in thinking, perception and
behavior arising out of mood disturbances.
Types of Bipolar Disorder:-
BIPOLAR-I DISORDER
BIPOLAR-II DISORDER
CYCLOTHYMIC DISORDER
Bipolar-I Disorder:-
Bipolar-I
Disorder— defined by manic episodes that last at least 7 days, or by manic
symptoms that are so severe that the person needs immediate hospital care. Usually,
depressive episodes occur as well, typically lasting at least 2 weeks.
Bipolar-II Disorder:-

Bipolar-II Disorder— defined by both mania and depression, but the mania is less severe
than in Bipolar-I and doctors call it hypomania. A person with Bipolar-II may experience
a major depressive episode preceding or following a manic episode.
Cyclothymic Disorder:-
Cyclothymic
Disorders are also known as cyclothymia, this type includes symptoms of
hypomania and depression that last for 2 years or more in adults or 1 year in children.
These symptoms do not fit the criteria for wholly manic or depressive episodes.
Mania:-
Mania is an alteration in mood that is characterized by
extreme happiness, extreme irritability, hyperactivity, little
need for sleep or racing thoughts which may lead to rapid
speech.
