Module 3 - Data Needs in Community Assessment

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
(DANICA – DRRM)
This module will focus on the Fact Finding Based
Activity to be accomplished in NSTP 2, its parts
and components, guidelines of gathering data,
plus the applicable parameters and methodologies
At the end of this module, the students are expected to:

1. Fully understand the DANICA – DRRM its likeness and difference to the GINA
(Gathering Information and Needs Analysis) as well as the Community Needs
Assessment (CNA) conducted by other universities.

2. Familiarize with the template of DANICA – DRRM in accordance with the

sequential presentation as outlined in the template.

3. Appreciate the value of fact finding in NSTP 2 as a tool for improvement and
development

4. Assess the dynamics of the community to be studied in reference to DRRM

programs currently in place or to create a DRRM Action Plan suited to the chosen
area.
In NSTP 2, actualization of all didactic and theoretical knowledge are
integrated into the creation of a written / project based output focusing on
community development and upliftment.

Since NSTP 2 in the past was interactive, with a social interaction and
actual site visit for conduct of interview and data acquisition by students,
under the New Normal System, students will now utilize all relevant technical,
information technology and social media platforms in determining the
necessary information in order to create the DANICA – DRRM Action Plan as
required for under the program.
Generally this is the same system of data gathering conducted during
NSTP 1, but with an integration of Disaster Risk, Reduction and Management
Plans of the Barangay as a major component of the Data Gathering, wherein
the residing student in that area will collate and acquire said information.

The basis for this has been discussed in Module 2 of NSTP 2, the
parameters and guidelines as to how this will be accomplished are clearly
detailed in the following slides.

The generated final outputs shall serve as vital data source which can be
utilized as reference by Government and other institutions in managing
emergencies and unwarranted situations in the evaluated Barangay.
As determined by NSTP Office and guided by CHED Resolutions and Memoranda, the following
parameters are hereto set :

a. The DANICA – DRRM Activity will be done individually by the student.

b. The focus of the data gathering activity will be the area or Barangay where the student resides.
c. All means of data gathering shall be accomplished using the internet, social media platforms and
other non – physical contact methods.
d. The DANICA – DRRM is broken down into Components with which the student will accomplish on a
per day / per session basis.
e. Metro Manila and Provincial Barangay Areas will be allowed in data sourcing work.
f. Only One Barangay shall be required for every student
g. In case two or three students are residing within a barangay, the output will be accepted, evaluation
and validation shall be done by the NSTP Mentor.
h. Outputs created by every student shall be stored by the NSTP Mentor for every submission date as
basis for issuance of grades.
i. For weekly submissible’s, only Word Format Document shall be accepted
j. Documents shall be uploaded via CANVAS or to the designated email of your NSTP Mentor.
The General Guidelines in creating the per session document as well as the final document are
outlined below :

a. The Font for use shall be ARIAL Size 11 and spaced 1 ½.

b. Short Bond Paper only or a measurement of 8” x 11” for all printouts of hard copy document.
c. Pictures, Street Maps, Charts, Hazard Maps and other Geographical Landmarks must be included
d. Narrative and bullet format of sourced data will be accepted
e. For copyrighted photos, cite the source and indicate in the document.
f. Linked sources must be included in the document.
g. Highlight / bolden important data on the document using red color of font.
h. In case of limited data sourcing of a Barangay go to other websites or local government links for the
needed information.
i. Cross validation of data acquired must be performed by the student in order to ascertain the latest
current information for the activity in DANICA – DRRM, 2015 and up.
j. In case of poor wi-fi connection and the student fails to pass the weekly output, SCREENSHOT of the
document shall be accepted upon validation by the NSTP Mentor.
k. Upon completing the whole 13 weeks of documentary outputs, the student will create a Powerpoint
Presentation based on the consolidated whole document apart from the MS Word File and forwarded
via Canvas or Email of the NSTP Mentor.
