(a) Calculate the rate of change of the stopping distance at a speed of 62.5 mph
using.

i. the two-point backward difference formula.

𝐹4 = 𝑓 % (62.5) = 8.1600

ii. the three-point backward difference formula.

𝐹5 = 𝑓 % (62.5) = 9.0800

(b) Calculate an estimate for the stopping distance at 75 mph by using the results
from part (a) for the slope and the two-point central difference formula applied
at the speed of 62.5 mph. How does the estimate compares with tha data?

Despejando la formula encontramos la estimación para 75 mph

Comparando con los datos de la tabla dada en el ejercicio nuestro resultado esta 19ft por
debajo del de la tabla.

(a) Calculate the rate of change in the number of male and female physicians in
2006 by using the three point backward difference formula for the derivative,
with unequally spaced points eq. 8.37

Tasa de cambio en el numero de Hombres médicos en 2006

Tasa de cambio en el numero de mujeres médicos en 2006

(b) Use the result from part (a) and the three-point central difference formula for the
derivative with unequally spaced points, Eq. (8.36), to calculate (predict) the
number of male and female physicians in 2008.

(a) Evaluate the rate of change in the number of male and female physicians in 2008.

Tasa de cambio en el numero de Hombres médicos en 2008

Tasa de cambio en el numero de mujeres médicos en 2008

(b)Use the data from 2008, 2006, together with the slopes in 2008 from part (a) to
estimate the year in which the number of female and male physicians will be equal. Use
the three-point central difference formula for the derivative (Eq. (8.36)) of a function
specified at unequally spaced points.

(a) Determine the heat flux at x= 0. Use the three-point forward differ- ence formula for
calculating the derivative.
El flujo de calor en 𝑥 = 0 es 6.7680𝑒 8 𝑊; 4
𝑚

(b)Determine the heat flux at x= L. Use the three-point backward difference formula for
calculating the derivative.

El flujo de calor en 𝑥 = 𝐿 es 3.3120𝑒 8 𝑊;𝑚4

(c)Determine the amount of heat (in W ) lost between x = 0 and x = L.
( The heat flow per unit time in Watts is the heat flux multiplied by the cross-sectional
area of the fin.)

Cantidad de calor en 𝑥 = 0

Cantidad de calor en 𝑥 = 𝐿

Cantidad de calor perdido entre 𝑥 = 0 𝑦 𝑥 = 𝐿

Cantidad de calor perdidido 5.5296 𝑊

(c)Use MATLAB's built-in interpl function (with the spline option for the interpolation
method) to generate a new interpolated data set from the data that is given in the table.
For spacing divide the domain [O, 6370] into 50 equal subintervals (use the l in space
command). Calculate the mass of the Earth by integrating the interpolated data set
