3rd Summative Test

1. Why is it necessary to involve the students in making the criteria for portfolio
assessment? Give 3 advantages.
In making the criteria for portfolio assessment it necessary to involve the students
because the students will be the one to be assess. When teachers make portfolio
assessment for the students they become more likely to seek challenges, look for new ideas,
practice, and initiative. The purpose of portfolio assessment is to able to see by the students
what success looks like, use feedback to improve, and make their own feedback to set goals.
By getting students involved, learning becomes all about team work as teachers and
students become partners reaching for the same learning goals.
Some advantage of involve the students in making the criteria for portfolio
assessment are it ensures that all students are learning, when the teachers get students to
participate in the assessment they can know exactly what is expected of them and also it
makes the teachers focused to the students learning needs.

2. When do we use portfolio assessment?

Portfolio assessment improve the students’ learning needs. It is representation of
what students have learned and is meant to demonstrate their current knowledge and skills.
Teachers uses portfolio assessment to self-assess them and set a learning goals for them
to improve. It is to be used to show growth over time, it may be used to promote a student's
abilities, or it may be used to evaluate a student's learning within a specific course. The
purpose of using portfolio assessment is to provide an opportunity for a student to reflect
on their learning and to formulate a deeper understanding of the concepts they are
learning beyond a simple surface explanation.

3. Differentiate Process Performance-based Assessment from product performance-based

assessment.
Process-oriented performance-based assessment is concerned with the actual task
performance rather than the output or product of an activity. It evaluates the actual task
performance and it does not emphasize on the output or product of the activity. This
assessment aims to know what processes a person undergoes when given a task.
Product-oriented performance based assessment is a kind of assessment where in
the teacher views and scores the final product made and not on the actual performance of
making that product. It is concern on the product alone and not on the process. It is more
concern to the outcome or the performance of the learner. It also focuses on achievement
of the learner. Product assessment focuses on evaluating the result or outcome of a
process.
4. Explain the process of defining the performance criteria.
Performance criteria are the standards by which performance is evaluated. It is used
by the teachers to maintain objectivity and inform students about expectations, giving
them a target or goal for which to strive. The selection process involves identifying the
learning objectives and determining the level of performance necessary to ascertain
whether student performance on the measure indicates that the learning outcome has
been achieved. Relevancy is also important concern in selecting performance criteria.

5. How will you select a good performance task?

Performance tasks is the application of knowledge and skills that a students use
their learning to perform. As a future teacher, I should select performance task based on
types that are appropriate for the targeted learning standards and learning outcomes, as
well as the specific qualities for which I want to provide feedback to my students. A good
performance task involves students in identifying standards and criteria to apply to their
performance and making judgement about the extent to which they met these criteria and
learning standards.
