Ss3900-Ranger-Galxy Alignment
Ss3900-Ranger-Galxy Alignment
1) Look for point TP3 (to the right of circuit IC9 = SO42).
2) Connect a high impedance sensitive frequency meter (not to disturb the oscillators) on TP3.
3) This put on channel 19 normal = 27.185 Mhz.
4) Put the COARSE and CLARIFIER in the center and locked = very important.
5) Switch to FM mode and read the frequency to be 16.490Mhz;
If at this level, your frequency meter does not measure anything = where it is not sensitive enough or
you are not on the right measuring point = for info TP3 corresponds to the tab of the resistance R74.
If you can not find TP3 possible to take the 9 leg of IC10
6) If different value of 16.4900 Mhz = turn the winding L19 (closest to the front of the TX).
7) Switch to USB mode.
8) Set the winding L20 (the one above) to have 16.4925Mhz.
9) Switch to LSB mode.
10) Set the winding L21 to have 16.4875MHz.
11) You resume all three settings L19, L20 and L21 because they are slightly active.
EVERYWHERE DOES NOT TOUCH the L22 winding above L21 (the one with a red circle around its core
and furthest away from the front of the TX).
I advise the NOVICES people in electronics to pass this chapter (make a loosest possible sampling of the
signal otherwise you will be more disturbing than to regulate your circuits) = for example take through
a condenser of 30 PF.
Indeed it is really a setting for PURISTS because it is rare that this stage is complement deregulated.
ALIGN NOW the transmission frequency of your TX = VERY IMPORTANT because simple setting and the
first to be done in case of BLU transmission offset (this setting has no reception action).
1) Find the adjustable potentiometer VR 21 =, it is seen components right just to the right of the
channel switch and very close to the front side.
2) This put on the normal channel 20 (27.205 Mhz).
3) This set BLU to USB position.
4) Well put coarse and clarify in central position = very important
5) Inject a signal of 1 KHZ into the microphone input.
6) Set RV21 to read 27.206 MHz on the frequency meter at the antenna output.
If you do not have a generator BF ask for a report to a buddy friend or OM team of a reliable TX
(decametric style) and set it RV 21 to have a module in BLU not shifted (no other simple solution ).
Be careful to respect the values that I IMPOSE you because it is better to make the alignment in mid-
range on a SS3900 that is to say on frequency 27,185Mhz.
Send audio signal 400HZ and 2500 Hz at 30 Mv at the same time to the microphone input
Set VR 12 to obtain the PEP MAX power indicated by the manufacturer (for an SS3900 HP it is 25 Watts
for example)
WARNING do not rotate VR12 to the bottom otherwise the RF power transistor could be destroyed
AM / FM SETTING
This set to AM mode
Select D band and channel 1
Set VR13 to have the MAX power allowed by the manufacturer (for an SS3900HP it is 10 to 12 watts)
FM EXCURSION ADJUSTMENT
This set to FM
Send 1000 HZ 30 MV audio signal to microphone input
Connect an excursiometer to the antenna output of the TX
Set VR5 to get +/- 2 kHz of excursion
S / METER TX ADJUSTMENT
Set VR8 so that the needle is at the beginning red zone in TX mode (preferable on 52 ohm load)
ALIGNMENT OF RECEIVER
Generator HF in service on 26,965 MHZ with 30% modulation and injection by the antenna of the signal.
Set this to AM mode
Set L3-L4-L6-L7-L8-L10-L11 and L12 for an MAX of audio output to the speaker terminals
Note: Keep the output level of the generator as low as possible to avoid an AGC reaction.
After completing the above operations set L8 to balance the A to F bands
(Basically you have to try to have the same reception sensitivity on the 240 channels = very complex,
repeat the settings several times and not get excited).
