INTRODUCTION

This assignment 2 is the proposed project for the one storey bungalow house. The
proposed house is including with three bedrooms, two capacious kitchen and one enormous
porch. A house has always been a gathering place, shelter and a sanctuary for one person. A
house is a residential building, which can be in a different range in complexity. Many houses
have few large rooms with its function and purposes. These include living room, bedrooms,
dining room, kitchen and some specialized space like gym, mini theater, garage, indoor
swimming pool, garden, spa room and many others. The specifications of building a house
contains description of the materials to be used in the constructions. A bill of quantities is
prepared by quantity surveyor to know the quantity of works and materials that required by the
contractor to complete a project. Bill of Quantities provides main contractor with measured
quantities of works as identified on the project drawings and specifications. In this proposed
project, a structural key plan of the proposed house is made with the specific requirement such
as three bedrooms, two kitchens that consist wet and dry and also one enormous porch. The
structural key plan shows where the beams of the ground floor plan located. The plan is to
show all the structural elements and dimensions of the beams, column and pad footings.
Before proceeding to do Bill of Quantities, taking off sheet can be referred to identify all the
structural elements and the measurements of the project. This is necessary to produce bills of
quantities and requires that the design is complete and all the specification is prepared. The
element that can be measured on taking off sheet in length, area, volume to produced a bill of
quantities. Bill of quantities then is issued to the tenderer for them to prepare a price for carrying
out the works.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

This assignment 2 has given task to propose relevant detailing of main structures for
the bungalow unit. The project proposes to construct one storey bungalow house. Student
need to sketch the structural drawing to show the detailing of the house. Student need to
propose new dimension and remain the same features of the house which includes three
bedrooms, two capacious kitchen and one enormous porch. Student need to choose the
longest span of beam to design and propose foundation, ground beam, slab and column size
and the detailing. After that, students need to prepare taking off to calculate the quantity of the
materials for the structural works for the proposed project which are taking off beams,
foundation and stump. Then, make Bill of Quantities to show type of materials proposed,
quantity price of materials and cost of structures detailing.
BASIC CONCEPT

The basic concept that applied in this proposed project are the bill of quantities is issued
to the tenderer to prepare a price for carrying out the works. The bill of quantities assists
tenderers in the calculation of construction costs for their tender and as it means all tendering
contractor will be pricing the same quantities. Analysis of drawings and specifications allows
the consultant to prepare taking off list, which all the individual elements that compromise the
works. Taking off generally performed early on during bidding process. During estimation
process, the person in charge have to make a frequent adjustment to the taking off. This may
due to design changes, additional requirements or change based on client wants. The taking
off is often a document that undergoes many changes until design is decided upon and a bid
is secured. Taking off is important as it is function for the construction projects. Taking off can
be estimate the cost of the project and the information is incorporated into a final detailed
estimate the material costs that represent of total construction costs, so it must be up-to-date
and accurate. A manual taking off is simply taking off that is completed without any assistance
of the digital software. A manual taking off is done by hand. Estimator would examine physical
drawings or blueprints and then create a list of materials. The calculation is complex if taking
off is done by doing manually rather than using Excel to perform certain calculations.

DISCUSSION

In this assignment, there are four types of pad footing used in this proposed project.
There are F1C1, F2C2, F3C3 and F4C4 where F is the type of foundation and C is the type of
stump used. For pad footing F1C1, the concrete used is 1.25 m³ of concrete while the stump
is 0.45 m³ of concrete. The lean concrete used for foundation F1C1 is 0.125 m³ of concrete.
For pad footing F2C2, the concrete used is 5.445 m³ of concrete while the stump is 0.365 m³
of concrete. The lean concrete used for foundation F2C2 is 0.545 m³ of concrete. For pad
footing F3C3, the concrete used is 3.12 m³ of concrete while the stump is 0.195 m³ of concrete.
The lean concrete used for foundation F3C3 is 0.26 m³ of concrete. The last pad footing F4C4,
the concrete used is 2.904 m³ of concrete while the stump is 0.156 m³ of concrete. The lean
concrete used for foundation F4C4 is 0.061 m³ of concrete. To calculate the reinforcement of
foundation, the number of pad footing, ties, stump and link is known. The reinforcement of
foundation F1C1 for pad footing is 69.84m of T12, the number of ties used for 2T10 is 42m,
the stump for F1C1 used is 91.88 m of T12 and the link used is 79.8 m of R10. The
reinforcement of foundation F2C2 for pad footing is 176.54 m of T16, the number of ties used
for 3T10 is 121.5 m, the stump for F2C2 used is 154.6 m of T25 and the link used is 61.74 m
of R10. The reinforcement of foundation F3C3 for pad footing is 91.68 m of T16, the number
of ties used for 3T10 is 103.2 m, the stump for F3C3 used is 52.9 m of T20 and the link used
is 43.68 m of R8. The last reinforcement of foundation F4C4 for pad footing is 78.46 m of T16,
the number of ties used for 3T10 is 54 m, the stump for F4C4 used is 59.3 m of T16 and the
link used is 34.94 m of R8. The formwork used for foundation F1C1, F2C2, F3C3 and F4C4
are 11, 2.25, 6, 21.78, 2.7, 3.65, 13.26, 3 and 1.13, 11.44, 0.9 and 2.4 m³ of sawn timber. For
beam (1-1A), the concrete used is 0.21 m³. The reinforcement for beam (1-1A) used are 7.764
m³ of T12, 7.852 m³ of T16 and 15 m of R10 stirrups. For beam (1A-3), the concrete used is
0.48 m³. The reinforcement for beam (1A-3) used are 16.852 m³ of T16, 17.05 m³ of T25 and
47 m of R10 stirrups. For beam (3-3A), the concrete used is 0.21 m³. The reinforcement for
beam (3-3A) used are 8.464 m³ of T12, 8.552 m³ of T16 and 28.9 m of R10 stirrups. For beam
(3A-6), the concrete used is 0.29 m³. The reinforcement beam (3A-6) used are 11.3 m³ of T16,
11.85 m³ of T25 and 26.88 m of R10 stirrups. The number of formworks used for beam (1-1A)
are 1.52, 1.40 and 0.525 m² of sawn timber. The number of formworks used for beam (1A-3)
are 3.32, 3.20 and 1.20 m² of sawn timber. The number of formworks used for beam (3-3A)
are 1.12, 1.04 and 0.77 m² of sawn timber. The number of formworks used for beam (3A-6)
are 1.53, 1.50 and 1.11 m² of sawn timber.

CONCLUSION

The total amount of concrete used in this project is RM 2629.00 for 13.91 Cu.m. The
