Lesson Idea Name: Force Car Ramp

Grade Level/Content Area: 2nd Grade/ Science

Content Standard Addressed: S2P2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the effect
of a force (a push or pull) in the movement of an object

ISTE Technology Standard Addressed:  What would you like students to know and be
able to do by the end of this lesson:
Empowered Learner: 1.1.a Students articulate and I would like students to know the difference of
set personal learning goals, develop strategies push and pull forces and the way they change
leveraging technology to achieve them and reflect direction and speed. I want them to know how an
on the learning process itself to improve learning object sliding down the ramp or sitting at the
outcomes. starting of the ramp is experiencing a pull due to
friction on the object due to the surface hat
opposes the object’s motion.
What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?
The blooket website is a fun tool used to design an assessment for students that incorporates gaming.
It’s a remotely tool that can be used on tablets or laptops. Students will be able to retain information
and show what they’ve learned by being competitive and works well with any level and any type of
content.

Creating

Students will create by designing a car ramp using materials provided to them to change the speed or
direction of the car being pushed and pulled down the ramp.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

I will address students’ needs by giving a fun lesson that will encourage students to be engaged and
encouraged to learn. Supporting their learning will be done by the peardeck app and allows the
teacher to give students a collaborative learning opportunity. The presentation involved different
activities that will better focus on their learning goals by working independently, while collaborating
digitally. The final lesson activity is one that provides a hand on visual for students to become
motivated because it gives them the opportunity to be creative and share their knowledge of
learning.
Managing student learning:
I believe using the blooket website as an assessment will help students to change from passive to
active because what kid doesn’t like a game! The game mode that the assessment will be given is
fishing frenzy because they are competing with themselves rather than their classmates. Some
students may not prefer the pressure of competition and this mode allows them to work
independently and show the teacher what they do or don’t know. The hands-on activity will be
assessed in a group, and this will get all students to give an input and explore their classmates’
different designs. Everyone will be turned into an active social learner by the end of this lesson and
will be communicative, collaborative, and show their knowledge of what they’ve learned.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
The learning activity of designing a ramp that can change the speed or direction will be an engaging
activity for students because young children love to build and express themselves. Action and
expression will be shown while students are collaborating their ideas and creating the final product.
They will be using different materials given to them to be creative and express their knowledge of
forces by experimenting with the different sizes of cars (different weight), changing the angle of the
ramp, and in the end, students will measure and record what they’ve observed. Throughout the
PowerPoint, there’s different opportunities that provide engagement by students expressing their
thoughts and videos to deliver the content.
Reflective Practice:
I believe using peardeck and blooket provides students to understand the lesson more because they are
required to be engaged and involved throughout the lesson. This is important because you make sure
that the students are listening by answering questions throughout the lesson and completing activities
that require students to collaborate and express their learning. I look forward to seeing students’
devices that they designed together to show forces by changing direction and speed. I can’t wait to see
the students be creative with the materials provided to them and for them to understand the way force
changes.
