PERSONNEL RESPONSIBLE WITH OBLIGATION OF CONSULTATION

A
In compliance with MACHINERY DIRECTIVE 98/37/EC concerning the optimised drafting of after-sales
technical documentation, this manual is aimed in particular at those who, regardless of their professional
function at work, must use and operate the machine.
The personnel responsible are classified in the following key:
• Site manager
• Machine operator
• Maintenance/repair technician
• Rigger/s
B
• Driver responsible for loading/unloading the machine in the event this must be transported on a truck
• Responsible of the warehouse in the event the machine must not be used for a long time.

IMPORTANT
Do not use the Drilling Mate System (DMS) before having read and understood all of the information provided
in this manual. C
IMPORTANT
The employer or the site manager are responsible for making sure the personnel responsible for using the
Drilling Mate System have been appropriately trained.

UM329007/E - Rev.0 10/08 5/114

 DMS
Introduction

PURPOSE OF THE MANUAL

A
The purpose of the manual is to train and instruct the personnel responsible for using the control panel
of the machine, specifically for the functions of their competence, whether these involve work or simply
manoeuvring and transporting the machine.

IMPORTANT
B We recommend training the relevant personnel on the indications in this manual before using the machine.

WARNING
This manual is not intended to instruct the operator on the use of the machine but only to train the same on
the use of the Drilling Mate System.

C For the instructions on the use and maintenance of the machine, please refer to the Operation and
Maintenance manual supplied with the machine.

MANUAL STRUCTURE
A
The manual has been divided into specific sections, identified by a letter.
The following sections can be found in the manual:

Section A: INTRODUCTION
This section provides general information on the manual and illustrates how this is organised.

Section B: STARTING
B
This section explains how to turn on the Drilling Mate System correctly.

Section C: CONFIGURATION
This section provides information on how to configure the control panel.

Section D: OPERATOR C
This section contains the sequence of commands and operations necessary for the use of the machine.

Section E: SITE MANAGER

This section contains the sequence of commands and operations that the site manager must perform to
organise the operator’s work.

IMPORTANT
D
Access to these program functions is password protected and only accessible to the site manager. The
password of the site manager can only be set with the password of the Soilmec technician.

Section F: DATA RECORDING

This section contains the sequence of commands and explains the operations relevant to registration and
transmission of the data recorded by the system during work.

CARE OF THE MANUAL

A
The manual must be kept in the driving cab (in the documents compartment behind the operator’s seat) or
in any case near the machine, where it can easily be reached and where it is protected from atmospheric
agents so it is kept in good conditions and on hand for consultation at any time.
If the manual or part of the same is lost or damaged, ask the Soilmec After-Sales Service to replace
it, indicating the code of the manual and the serial number of the machine it was enclosed with, in the
request.

Introduction

SAFETY MESSAGES
A
This manual uses some symbols to identify important safety messages.
The safety messages are preceded by signal words which are intended to alert the viewer to the existence
and relative degree of a hazard. On the basis of the level of risk that they neutralise, you will find three
different signal words in this manual:

B DANGER
This signal word indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in
serious injury (or even death) of the operator or anyone else near the machine.

WARNING
This signal word indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result in serious
C injury of the operator or anyone else near the machine. Furthermore, there may be serious structural
damage to the machine, which can compromise the standard of safety the machine was designed for by the
manufacturer in the planning phase.

IMPORTANT
This signal word indicates important technical and/or technological information that allows using the machine

D in a more efficient way. They also direct the attention to all those operations for which the SOILMEC
After-Sales Service must be contacted -i.e. when needing ORIGINAL SPARE PARTS or TECHNICAL
ASSISTANCE INTERVENTIONS.

DMS
Introduction

REVISIONS A
The information contained in this manual is based on the most up-to-date data available when it goes into
print.
Depending on the equipment and accessories the machine can be equipped with, there may be some
differences in some texts or illustrations without this being cause for dispute.
There may be variations in relation to a particular version of the machine at any time also if the basic
information is the same and still valid.
Nevertheless before starting any operation, make sure you have all of the information necessary with B
particular reference to any revised technical publications available.
For detailed information, please contact the SOILMEC After-Sales Service.
