Woman Disciplines Kid in the Public

Question: Is disciplining a child in public is an example of social control? Explain your

answer.

- Yes, it is an example of social control, because as I can see on the video the
parents showed force, violence and shame to their son who refused to behave at
the store and kept running and playing with another child. It showed social
control because of the violent discipline shown to their own child where the
mother beats up the child and pulled his hair causing for him to hide on its father
because of the shame he has received. This is a very occasional practice
between a family when one refuse to behave and obey their parents, they
exercise social control whether it’s being violent or putting them to shame.

2. Woman conforms to others in the waiting area

Question: What do you think is the negative impact of conformity to us, members of
the society

- For me, the negative impact of conformity to our society is that it makes us
dependent to those who surrounds us or to those we interact in our everyday
lives. It makes us lose our diversities and our own personality as well as
identities because we think that we need to conform to the society we live in for
us to not feel exempted or alienated by our peers or by the community. It can
also be negative if we happen to be on a group who will do us no good and do
bad things because conformity has a way for us to conform to social norms of
the groups we are always accompanying.

3. Deviant Behaviors

Question: Is deviance always negative? Explain your answer.

- For me, deviance is not always negative because sometimes formal rules or even
informal social norms is made for the society to force us to act on a certain
behavior they want but being an outlaw sometimes can bring positive effects to
exile the existing norms and bring some new one thus, bringing social change to
the society. Wanting to be different or unique is not always a bad thing and also
it is one way to put an end to some unspoken and formal rules that brings
toxicity to the current generation.
