University of North Texas Summer, 2011 Intensive English Language Institute Week I: June 6-10

Denton Water Works Park Friday, June 10, 5:308 p.m. Cool off from this summer heat at the pool! Sign up in SYMR 214 if you would like to attend this trip. Meet at the corner of Ave. B and Mulberry St., outside the GAB, at 5:30 p.m. to ride the bus. Class Schedule for Monday, June 13, ONLY: Welcome Party Monday, June 13, from 11:45 a.m. 1 p.m., A: 8:10-9:45a.m. in the Unions Silver Eagle Suite. Come celebrate the new term with B: 10:05-11:40a.m. games, pizza, and prizes! The class schedule will be adjusted on Monday for the party C: 1:20-2:55p.m. (see box at right). D: 3:15 4:50p.m. Six Flags Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m. 6 p.m. Six Flags is an amusement park with roller coasters and rides, so don't miss out! Sign up in SYMR 214 if you would like to attend. Cost is $10, cash or check. Meet at the corner of Ave. B. and Mulberry St., outside the GAB, to ride the bus.

NEW!!! Do you want an extra opportunity to practice speaking English with Americans? Come to IELIs Conversation Hour! Friday, June 17 12:101 p.m. in SYMR 203 Sign up in the Student Counselors office, SYMR 214, if you want to attend.
Conversation Hour will be held on Fridays during the Summer term. Come each week to practice English and make friends.

New IELI students in levels 4, 5, and 6 should attend Lab Orientation on Friday, June 10th. New students will receive a Lab Orientation Sheet in their Communication class that will have their scheduled time for orientation. Extra Resources for Practicing Grammar, Listening, Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary, etc. can be found at the IELI website at www.ieli.unt.edu. Ask in the IELI Lab (SYMR 224) if you would like help using the website. Need Help with your EUID or Password? Come to the IELI Lab (SYMR 224), and the Lab Assistants will be happy to help you.

The Information Science Building (ISB) has been renamed Sycamore Hall (SYMR). IELI will be in the same place, but it will have a different building name.

Attention all NEW Summer term students:


All new international students are required to be screened for tuberculosis after beginning classes at UNT. ALL new students must make an appointment at the Health Center between June 20 and June 30 to have the TB screening done. ***To schedule an appointment, call 940-565-2333, press option 2, and say you want to schedule a TB appointment.*** When you go to the Health Center, you must bring three forms with you: the TB Screening Record, Medical History Form, and TB Screening Form. You should have filled out the forms at orientation. They must be filled out using black ink. Extra copies of the medical forms are available in the Student Counselors office, SYMR 214. If you have questions, you can speak to someone in SYMR 214. Students who do not complete the screening by June 30 will be taken out of class to go to the Health Center. They will receive an absence for the class that they miss to do this.

Bus schedulesUNT buses run on limited schedules in the summer term. Bus service ends at 5:30 p.m. and only operates Monday through Thursday. However, the Discovery Park route operates on Fridays. If you ride the bus, please check the summer schedule online at: http://www.unt.edu/transit. DormsIf you plan to live in the UNT dorms during the Fall semester, you must apply at: http://www.unt.edu/housing. Even if you live in a dorm this summer, you must reapply for the fall. You will not be able to stay in your room without filling out the housing application again and paying a deposit. If you have not applied already, you should do so right away. Housing is filling up quickly.

You MUST keep an up-to-date address on file with UNT for immigration purposes. To update your address, go to http://www.my.unt.edu and log-in with your EUID and password. If you need help updating your address, you can go to the IELI Main Office and fill out a blue Address Maintenance form (SYMR 211). In your MyUNT account, you must list provide an address in the United States for your mailing address. This is IMPORTANT!

Outdoor Movie in the Park Thursday, June 9, 9 p.m., at Quakertown Park (by the Denton Civic Center). Come for a free screening of the movie Megamind. Bring blankets and chairs to sit on while you enjoy a movie night under the stars. Canoe Trip on the Trinity River Sunday, June 26. If you would like to learn how to canoe, sign up for this day trip at the Pohl Recreation Center before June 20. Cost is $8.

There is now a meditation room available for students to use on campus. The meditation room is in Wooten Hall, room 310. It is open for meditation from June 6 to July 29, from 1 2 p.m., and 4 5:30 p.m.
