Main Objective
• The main purpose of this study is to describe the
development of Mamatid, Cabuyao City in the process of
Urbanization and Modernization the perspective of the
local residents. (Edmi)
Specific Objective
• To be able to determine the changes that the Mamatid
citizens have witnessed in their environment in terms of
peoples’ livelihood, technology, transportation, health, and
nature. (Jahred)

• To identify the advantages and disadvantage of

urbanization and modernization in Mamatid, Cabuyao,
Laguna. (Mariel)
Central questions
> As a result of urbanization and modernization, what are the
changes in Mamatid that the residents have witnessed in terms of
the following?
• Livelihood
• Technology
• Health
• Nature

> What are the advantages and disadvantages of urbanization and

modernization in Mamatid? (Edmi)
Information of the respondents
• We conducted an in-depth interview with ten people who have
lived in Mamatid for more than 10 years.
• The required ages for the respondents are around the age
range of 30 - 50.

1. Urbanization and modernization leads to accessibility to jobs
2. Businesses such as stores and eateries open up job
opportunities for the residents
3. Online jobs are being recognized by the residents nowadays.
4. There are quite a number of educational institutions built in the
community as well.

1. High-tech cell phones, laptops, televisions, computers, etc. are
much more widely used by people in our current time.
2. The wi-fi or internet has also become a necessity because most
important transactions, activities, events, meetings, etc. are
being held online nowadays.
3. Many families or individuals are installing wi-fi or internet in their
houses as online jobs are also being considered in the

● Transportation
1. The transportation in Mamatid is easier because there is much
public transport available.
2. The amount of private vehicles has also increased. As a result,
the road of Mamatid is now more prone to traffic.
3. E-bike (Electronic Bike) became widely used by the majority of
the local residents. (Mariel)

● Health
1. Other people experiences poor health nutrition due to the
inability to prioritize buying nutritious food due to high prices of
stocks.
2. Some responses also give attention to the air pollution due to
the increase in vehicles which can lead to serious health issues

1. Majority of the respondents have stated that the environment
have become dirtier nowadays compared to what it was 10 years
ago.
2. The garbage problems and proper garbage disposal become
more evident and so is the Environmental pollution.
3. The respondents also notice that there is a gradual increase of
urban land usage.
4. trees and rice fields are still visible in some areas of Mamatid,
some lands are developed into subdivisions.

● Advantages
1. It makes people’s life easier and more convenient because certain
services, technologies, and transportation are more accessible to
everyone.
2. It helps in the economic growth not only in Laguna but also in the
Philippines due to the fact that more business grows in urbanized
areas.
3. A better food, housing, technology, education, employment
opportunities, and health care would be implemented as Mamatid
goes into the process of urbanization and modernization.

● Disadvantages
1. Urbanization and modernization lead to nature being neglected
by the residents, more waste is being produced due to the
population growth and it can cause pollution.
2. Having more infrastructure would mean that residents will have
to relocate or worse, have no home at all.
3. Trees, rice fields, etc. will be renovated into a cemented area
when new infrastructure is being built.

The majority of the residents stated that urbanization and

modernization is a good thing for Mamatid because of the
following:
• It makes everyday life much more convenient.
• Job opportunities are within the reach of people.
• Modern public and private transportation makes travelling
easier.
• People benefits from internet and new technologies.

However some of the respondents are either neutral or think

it is unnecessary and pointed out the following:
• We should consider many things such as the people’s
safety and health, nature’s status, possible pollution
agents, etc. before completely implementing urbanization
and modernization.

Recommendations
➢ The Mamatid government may implement programs that can
educate the residents regarding the advantages and
disadvantages, importance, and other necessary
informations of urbanization and modernization in our
barangay.
➢ The local residents of Mamatid should discipline themselves
regarding proper waste disposal, environment preservation,
and other simple actions that can help the environment while
it is in the process of urbanization and modernization.

Recommendations
➢ The local government should set limits to the infrastructures
being built in green fields to avoid the total deforestation of green
fields and trees that are left which can result to further pollution.

➢ The local government in Mamatid should encourage its young
and old residents to be more of a responsible citizen who yearns
for development and at the same time preserves natural
resources. (Jahred)
➢ Future researchers may conduct the same study after 10 or more
years, to a larger amount of respondents to determine the
difference of the findings in the previous study. (Edmi)
