Q1. WHAT ARE THE APPROPRIATE GRAPHS FOR DATA IN SLIDE 12?

A line chart is used to display trends over time (years, months, and days) or categories
when the order is important. We Use it when there are many data points and the order is
important. To the given graphs we can see there is year order for different countries and
their value which we can represent on line chart, when we can use plot years on X axis and
values to the Y and different color lines for different countries, we will be able to
differentiate the different colors and thus the country at correct years and value.

A clustered column chart is used to compare values across a few categories.we Use it
when the order of categories is not important. In our data, as in the given data we can use
different columns for different countries while using the year in the X axis and values at the
Y Axis for both the tables. The color differentiation of columns will easily represent the
value of a particular country for the given year

Q2. LIST HOW GESTALT PRINCIPLES COULD BE APPLIED FOR SLIDE 13?

PRINCIPLE 1: PROXIMITY

The principle of proximity or contiguity states that things which are closer together will be
seen as belonging together.

The red dots that signifies different countries falling in the same quarter of the infographics
fall closer to each other which signifies the rule of proximity.

PRINCIPLE 2 - SIMILARITY

The principle of similarity states that things which share visual characteristics such as
shape, size, color, texture, value or orientation will be seen as belonging together.

Certain red dots are connected with yellow lines whereas certain are connected with red
lines that show certain similarity with each other.

PRINCIPLE 3 - CONTINUITY

All the red dots are connected to a red or yellow line which shows that the line signifies the
continuous relation between the Persons with upper secondary or tertiary education
attainment and GDP per capita in PPS.

PRINCIPLE 4 – (EN)CLOSURE

OBJECTS ENCLOSED/ PARTIALLY CLOSED ARE PERCEIVED TO BE A GROUP

It is visible from the Infographic that it is divided into 4 quarters which perceive 4 different
groups and the blue circle also gets highlighted as a different cluster.

PRINCIPLE 5 - CONNECTION

WE TEND TO THINK OBJECTS PHYSICALLY CONNECTED AS A GROUP

All the red dots are connected to a red or yellow line which shows that the line signifies the
relation between Persons with upper secondary or tertiary education attainment and GDP
per capita in PPS belonging to that particular country.

Graph 2-

Reasons -
1.) In Graph 1 - Plotted Graph is divided into 3 Primary groups that reflect the Principle
1 - Proximity of Gestalt law.
2.) Principle 2 - Similarity of Gestalt law is visible in both Graph 1, Where GDP per
capita is divided into different categories and reflected by different colors and In
graph 2, level of gender inequality is categories by different colors.
3.) Principle 4 - Enclosure of gestalt law is visible in Graph 2
