SUNSHADE – are useful in preventing glare and protecting the objective lens, it is used to block
sunlight from affecting objects being sighted.
VERTICAL MOTION TANGENT SCREW – Use to control motion of the telescope and
axis.
NIGHT LIGHTING SWITCH –Make objects more visible when there is no enough light.
LOWER PLATE CLAMPING SCREW – locks or releases the lower plate, when this screw is
unlocked both upper and lower plates move together.
LEVELING SCREWS – Allows adjustments to be made to ensure the instrument is level in all
positions.
VERTICAL MOTION CLAMPING SCREW – Controls the rotation of the lower plate and
provides a means for locking it in place.
VERTICAL CIRCLE – It is used for measuring the vertical angle, is fitted to telescope and
moves simultaneously with telescope.
THREE OF FOUR CROSS HAIR RING RETAINING SCREWS – thought to enable the
object to be bisected with more precision
EYEPIECE FOCUSING RING – Adjustment used to compensate for differences between eyes
EYEPIECE – Located at the viewing end of the telescope, it can be turned to bring the
crosshairs into focus.
READING GLASS – used mainly to aid the instrument man in reading graduations that are
provided with verniers such as the horizontal and vertical circle of a transit.
“A” VERNIER – Used to determine angular measurements that the original scale cannot read.
LOWER PLATE TANGENT SCREW - allows small motion of the plate in locked position.
