GYPSUM BLOCK

- Gypsum block, also known as gypsum partition block, is a new masonry material, made
of gypsum plaster and water. It is a massive lightweight building material composed of
solid gypsum (a soft white or gray mineral consisting of hydrated calcium sulfate) , for
building and erecting lightweight, fire-resistant, non-load bearing interior walls, partition
walls, cavity walls, and skin walls.
- Gypsum blocks were first made commercially in Germany in the 1890s. They were used
for floors, partitions and roofs.

Dimension

Medium gross density (standard usage) = 850 kg/m^3 to 1.100kg/m^3

High gross density (wall or higher performance requirements) = 1.100kg/m^3 to 1.500kg/m^3

Dimensions of these blocks are 500mm length, 500mm height. 4 blocks = 1 m 2

Properties

 Fire Resistant - Because of the stored water, gypsum is a good fire protection building
material. In the event of fire, the water crystals vaporize, actively slowing the spread of
the fire. (100 mm thickness offers 3 hours of fire resistance)
 Light weight - improve the speed of masonry.
 Good for health - because of its non-toxic plaster.
 Wall stability - can be synchronized with the deformation of the frame structure.
 Good for environment - if pre-demolition, gypsum block can be removed to the gypsum
flour mill wastes for recycling, so back and forth 10 times, plaster strength decreased
only 4%.

Installation Procedure

1. Preparation of gypsum adhesive bed on rock wool strips.

2. Work gypsum blocks into the bond.
3. The uppermost row of blocks ends, must 4cm below the ceiling.
4. Fill the ceiling joint.
5. Embed the glass fibre lattice.
6. Apply the wall plaster.

Cost
It costs $9.00 – 10.00 per square meter

(It is more expensive than the concrete blocks because of its properties)
