1. Write on board „Edinburgh‟ and eight words in Think! at top of p.19. Pupils say words they

Lesson delivery
2. Pupils do Activity 1. They read the text and find words from Step 1 in it then write them
down.
3. Explain there are words and phrases we use to describe a town or city. Pupils do Activity 2.
They compare with a partner. Check answers. (21st CA)
4. Write adverbs, adjectives and nouns on board e.g. „really fantastic school., .very friendly
ACTIVITIES children.. Pupils do Activity 3. In pairs they write a phrase with really/very/quite + adj. +
noun.
Choose pupils to read phrases to class. (CBA)
5. Do the first sentence in Activity 4 with pupils as an example. Pupils order the words in
sentences 2–5.
6. Pupils then write jumbled words including an adjective for a partner to put in sentence
order. Choose pupils to read the jumbled words then the sentence with words in correct order.
This activity develops problem solving skills.
Post-lesson
6. With books closed, dictate some sentences to the class. Check answers by writing the
sentences on the board. Ask pupils to check their spelling carefully.

Pre-lesson
Play Find Something- Teacher says „Find something red‟, and pupils go to touch something
red in the classroom.
Then, pick one of the pupils to write the colour words on the board.
Lesson delivery
1. Pupils sit in small groups. Give each group some letters (cards or plastic ones). Call out a
letter; pupils have to try to grab the correct letter. They keep it if they grab it first. (21st
CA)
ACTIVITIES 2. Next, tell pupils a colour word. They should work together to try to spell it using the
letters they have. They can use the words on the board to help. (HOTS)
3. Teacher hand out worksheet and ask pupils to write their name at the top. (CBA)
4. Pupils then read and colour the words (Part A).
5. Next pupils colour the hat in Part B and write the colour in the gap.
Post lesson
Pupils see the Student‟s Book picture page 4. Give them 1 minute to look at the picture and
remember what‟s in it. Ask them to close their books.
Hide the picture if you are not using the textbook. Make true/false statements. Pupils tell
you if your statements are true or false, and correct false statements.

1. Present the new vocabulary through miming. Pretend you are setting the table and invite pupils to
guess what you are doing. Introduce the expression set the table. Pupils repeat and mime the actions
after you. Repeat the same procedure with the phrases clear the table, take out the rubbish, rake
leaves, shovel snow, and feed the fish. (HOTS)
Lesson delivery

2. Ask a question for general understanding, e.g. Which child is most like you?
3. Have pupils look at the presentation and ask them what kind of text this is (an article) and where they
would find a page like this one (in a magazine).
4. Pupils look at the pictures and guess what housework the children have to do at home. Have pupils read
ACTIVITIES and listen (Track 25) to the text.
5. Ask pupils to find and guess the meaning of unfamiliar words in the text.
6. Play the CD and have pupils follow along silently. Play the CD a second time and encourage pupils to
shadow read.
7. Ask pupils questions such as the following: What jobs does Beth do at home? When does she take out
the rubbish? Who does Wadida help at home? What housework does she do? What does Mark have to
do in the winter?
8. Pupils read again and complete activity 2.
Post-lesson

9. TASK 10: WHAT ABOUT YOU? Invite some pupils to tell you by asking: „What about you? What can you
remember?‟ Write their answers on the board.

city. B. Other places and transport in the city. C. Where the city is. Pupils match the phrases A–C to

3. Pupils do Activity 5 (Use it!). Explain they‟re going to write a plan for a website with a

order of paragraphs. Elicit ideas about how to describe the size of a place. (HOTS)
4. Pupils look at Writing Guide, B Think and Plan. They make notes about the place they like.

5. Pupils write the description then read it to check they have points in B, C and D of Writing
Guide. They draw smiley faces for writing the 5 points in B; three paragraphs in C; „there‟s‟ and
„there are‟; adjectives in the right place and comparative forms in D. (CBA)
