ABOUT THE CITY ▪ The Maharashtra State Road Transport
Corporation operates a bus station a Swargate.
• Swargate is an area of Pune, Maharashtra, India. ▪ Buses of the Karnataka State Road Transport
• This is one of the busiest areas in Pune. Corporation also pass through the bus station.
• The Swargate connects Pune to various areas
like Hadapsar, Fursungi, Dhankawadi, Bibwewadi, etc.
▪ In 2012, the traffic arm of the Pune Police proposed
to split the bus station into different bus stations
• The areas under Swargate include Guru Nanak Nagar, Mukund
across the city to ease traffic congestion.

• Delay of buses are due to some cases: more demand of passengers, depletion of fleet size,
traffic characteristic and frequency of buses.

• Duration peak-hour traffic disorganization of bus scheduling is higher than non peak-hour
traffic.

• Using a exclusive bus lane for bus operation can reduce disorganization Moreover, to improve
bus service in crowed are as, the mixed traffic lanes and exclusive bus lane can be used
together.

• With increasing average speed of bus in exclusive bus laneways and decline running time
between bus stops, can compensate delays at the last stations.

• Due to metro construction there is chaos happening in the area surrounding bus depot and
traffic is increased.

• Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) is the public transport bus service provider for the city
of Pune, India. 17
• It operates 486 routes around the Pune Metropolitan Region including 51 Rainbow BRT routes that partially ply on the
4 bus rapid transit corridors. Since 2019, PMPML has been operating both 9 and 12 m Electric AC Buses at the same
fare as regular buses.
