There are two (2) eight bit (8-bit) values or parameters referred to as P1 and P2 that are essential for the coding process. P1 and P2 values can be calculated using the attached table. It is important to note also that cars manufactured up to 05/96 use a separate engine coolant sensor that is wired to the climate control panel for engine coolant temperature (ECT) information. Subsequent models use a serial link K1, or K1 and K2 between the instrument cluster and the climate control panel. The most common combinations for P1 and P2 for 210 chassis: P1 P2 40 136 46 136 104 136 72 136 72 152

Problem: EC Button is stuck Solution: (i) Needs a Freon refill and or, (ii) A faulty pressure switch that needs replacing. OE # 140 830 0072. Problem: Temperature out of range on display. Solution: (i) Faulty temperature sensor needs to be replaced. OE # 210 830 0772. Problem: Cannot find diagnostic code. Solution: (i) Press and hold the REST button for ~ 10 seconds. What does that code mean?

NOTE: If you have a problem with ECT data or night illumination with the climate control panel you do not have the K1 and K2 values programmed correctly. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL PANEL. If you have a climate control panel where the EC button remains illuminated, the most likely culprit is a stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) or a version coding error for refrigerant level sensor. In order for the compressor to work, the DTC needs to be cleared and the coding corrected. Replacing the climate control panel, even with a new climate control panel will not fix your problem. If you have a DTC for refrigerant pressure, the compressor will work briefly with a new, even a used unit but once the engine gets hot, it will simply set the code again and the compressor will stop. In other words, DTC problems must be fixed first.

Procedure: In order to program the control unit, please follow the instructions below: 1. Set ignition to ON 2. Set left display to HI 3. Set right display to LO 4. Set ignition to OFF 5. Press and hold the REST button and SIMULTANEOUSLY switch ignition ON 6. Display left P1 (first value) right side is the version coding value. Adjust this value using the right side red/blue temperature up/down buttons (blue =<, red = >). 7. Store the value by pressing the EC button for about 5 seconds. 8. Press the EC button again to set P2 9. Follow steps 6 7 to set the P2 value. 10. Turn ignition OFF 11. Reset right and left temperature selectors to normal settings.
