Sampling procedure

In order to determine the association between the prevalence of hypertension with flying
fish consumption in Brgy. Poblacion, Caraga, Davao Oriental, The study are divided into
exposed- respondents with hypertension, and unexposed group- respondents without
hypertension. A non-probability purposive sampling technique will be utilized for the
respondents diagnosed with hypertension. Since it is not feasible to test the whole 5000
population, the researchers determined the sample size by basing on the population of
Poblacion, Caraga, with the standard 95 percent confidence level and 5% margin of
error that results to 357 sample size.
The target participants for exposed group will be coming from the Sweetheart Club in
Poblacion Caraga, Davao Oriental, an organization of hypertensive individuals. This will
be facilitated by the barangay health workers along with the appointed researcher. The
assigned barangay health worker will contact the members to participate in the study
which will then be assessed appropriately based on the requirements for inclusion and
exclusion criteria. Members consenting to take part on the study will be included on the
final list to participate during the survey period.
Furthermore, respondents for the unexposed group are selected with the use of the
purposive sampling as well. The target participants involved in this group are individuals
without hypertension chosen in a recruiting manner identified by known participants.
