Lesson Idea Name: Fractions and Decimals Quick Check
Grade Level/Content Area: 4th Grade Math

Content Standard Addressed:

MGSE4.NF.6 Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10 or 100. For example, rewrite 0.62 as
62/100; describe a length as 0.62 meters; locate 0.62 on a number line diagram.
MGSE4.NF.7 Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons
are valid only when the two decimals refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the
symbols >, =, or
ISTE Technology Standard Addressed:  What would you like students to know and be
Empowered Learner: 1.1.c. Students use technology able to do by the end of this lesson:
to seek feedback that informs and improves their  I would like students to be able to recognize
practice and to demonstrate their learning in a fractions as decimals and which decimal is greater
variety of ways than/less than the other when compared.

What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?

The student learning goal for this lesson is that they will take away what they need to spend more
time on when looking at fractions and decimals. By using Quizizz, I want students to see what types
of problems they are making errors on.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

I will promote student learning to the highest level, creating, with this lesson by encouraging
students to not only evaluate where they are in the learning process, but encourage them to create
their own problems to solve.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

The teacher will show the students the learning targets and teach students how to use Quizizz for
this checkpoint. I will keep students engaged by using Quizizz to make the assessment fun. I will do a
preassessment before I start the unit to see what students already know and what students need
help with. I will make each of the problems real world scenarios that students may encounter. After
the quiz, I will see where each student was and what questions students struggled with the most. I
will conclude the lesson by encouraging students to look at what they missed and strive to
understand what they need to do differently.
Managing student learning:
I believe the students will move from passive to active learners using Quizizz. By using this tool, each
question gets a picture for getting it right or wrong that encourages students to keep going. I will
allow for time-on-task by allowing for reflections on learning.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
The experience of this lesson will help with the action and expression components of UDL
framework. This is because the students are not only taking the action of solving the problems and
seeing if they are right or wrong, but also encouraging them to act and try to fix their mistakes.
Reflective Practice:
I do believe that this will help students build an understanding that they could not do with
traditional tools. This lesson will help engage students with technology as a game. I look forward to
implementing this lesson and seeing where the students are academically. This will help show me
where I can improve as a teacher and what my students might need differently.
