Delivering a Common Future is a theme for Commonwealth Day 2022.
It highlight how the 54 members in the Commonwealth family are
innovating, connecting and transforming to help achieve Goals
like fighting climate change promoting good governance and
boosting trade.
Below is a theatre script that highlight conversations between
the teacher and the students on how the institutional celebrate
the event of Commonwealth Day in their institution.
SCENE 1
INT: DAY (CLASSROOM)
Students are in class waiting for their teacher, some of them
are busy chatting while some are reading. Suddenly the teacher
enter in class. Student all stand up to greet.
STUDENTS
Good day sir! (All greet in unison)
MR.ELVIS
Good day all. Please sit down.
(Students sit down. MR.ELVIS continue)
I am sure you all are done with my assignment. Class perfect
please collect all the assignment and give it to me.
CLASS PERFECT
Okay sir
(He collect the assignments and give it to the teacher)
MR.ELVIS
Now you can concentrate on your studies and prepare well for your
upcoming exam. Now I am having a meeting with my colleagues.
(He was about to leave the class when the student ask him a
question)
KAROLINA
Sir! Tomorrow is an International Day celebration of Commonwealth
Nation. Is our school not launching and celebration?
MR.ELVES

Ohhh…. (He cupped his chin in thought) that is a good question
but I am afraid we cannot launch the celebration. But by the way,
what do you know about that particular special day? Why do they
celebrate it? When did it started? Which country is its leading
head?
KAROLINA
Sir Commonwealth is an opportunity to promote the strong unity,
diversity, and share value of the Commonwealth family and it’s
celebrated by people across the world.
MR.ELVIS
Prefect!!! Clap for her (the class clapped). So what about your
own options?
(Students stayed quite in thought)
Alright, since tomorrow is weekend, I want you all to go out and
observe how the Commonwealth Nations is celebrating in your
community or region and we will discuss it in our next class.
Don’t forget to find out when it started and the leading head.
Class dismiss.
SCENE 2
EXT: DAY
(KAROLINA and LILIAN are going home from school, discussing
where there are going to attend the event concerning
Commonwealth.)
LILIAN
KARO, please do you know where we can catch such even?
KAROLINA
Oh yes, I heard my elder brother said there are going to launch
the event in the University of Bamenda tomorrow.
LILIAN
That’s great. I think we should go there tomorrow.
KAROLINA
Yes we should.

LILIAN
Wait for me tomorrow okay. Bye
KAROLINA
Okay I will. Bye
CUT TO
( on the other side, two students are discussing how they are
going to make their own move.)
KENNETH
Hey guys! About tomorrow, how are we going to attend....( ROLAND
interject)
ROLAND
Don’t tell me you are talking about Commonwealth Day.
KENNETH
Um... but I am right at it.
ROLAND
Alright, alright but you know I can’t attend the event right?
KENNETH
Oh! It’s your grandma’s burial tomorrow not so? I nearly forgot
ROLAND
Yes KEN, and a lot of preparation is going on right now. I really
have a lot to do. So I am not sure if I will really be able to
observe the event of the Commonwealth Day.
KENNETH
It is really true, as a friend, I wish I could go directly at
your family compound to assist you with some work but you know my
Stepmom right?
ROLAND
I see but you don’t need to worry, I have understand your
situation with your Stepmom a long time ago. You should try your
best to persuade her to grant you a request. ( he pat KEN’s
shoulder to comfort him and nod with a smile)
KENNETH

Thank your RO.
I will do my best to convince her.
ROLAND
Yes, that will be good, just do your best and make sure not to
miss that important event.
KENNETH
Yes I will.
ROLAND
Alright! Let’s be going, it’s getting late.
KENNETH
Yes let’s be going. Bye RO.
ROLAND
Bye bye!
(They depart in different direction)
