 About the course

CA foundation is an entry-level examination to join Chartered Accountancy course.

Chartered accountancy course is a dream for students pursuing commerce and who
like to succeed in accounting.
Students who take up CA foundation have to clear their higher secondary
examinations. Students can register for CA foundation in their 10th standard itself.
CA foundation was initially called the common proficiency test (CPT) for Chartered
Accountancy courses. After CA foundation the candidate has to clear, Intermediate,
and Final exams to become a CA.

Eligibility

Only students who have cleared their 12 examinations are eligible to attend their CA
foundation. Their board exams have to be recognized by the central or state board of
school education.
However, a provisional registration is being provided for students in special cases.

 Students who have an admit card but have not attended their board
examinations.
 Students who have an admit card and are attending their improvement
examinations.
A chartered accountant course can be pursued by anyone. There is no age limit to
pursue a Chartered Accountancy course. The minimum requirement is 12th pass to
pursue CA. There is no limit in the attempts to clear CA. You can try as much time
till you clear your exam.

 Things to do after Registering for CA Foundation

Receive Registration Letter

Once after the registration of the CA foundation, you will receive your registration
letter for the CA foundation. Please carry your registration letter to your exam. If your
admit card is lost, then you can use your registration letter to attend your exam
under special procedures. ICAI has also advised the candidates to bring their
registration letter for the CA foundation exam for the same purpose. You can
download your registration letter on icai.org.in, the same website you used for CA
registration.

Get Exam Admit card

CA Foundation Admit Card will be available online on the official website generally
1-2 months prior to exams. Candidates who have completed the Registration process,
filled and submitted the application, and completed the payment process in due time
will get the admit card.
All the candidates can download admit cards from the official website by using their
registration number and password. They also have to carry the same at the
Examination Centre.

 Be sure that you attend all your exams in the CA Foundation course. Also, attend to
all the questions in each exam. The minimum percentage to clear CA foundation is
40% in each subject and an overall aggregate of 50%.
Don’t forget to take all your documents to your exam hall such as your admit card,
government id which are all important documents to submit for verification before
your exams.

Check Results

The Result will be also released on the official website. After appearing in the exam
candidates will receive the result releasing date through SMS or Email.
Just like admit card, Candidates can access and download their results by using the
registration number and password on the official website. ICAI will also release a CA
Foundation Merit List which will consist of details of the top 50 qualified candidates
for the CA Foundation exam.

 Exam Pattern

 There is a set of 4 papers.

 Paper 1 & Paper 2 will have subjective type questions.
 Paper 3 & Paper 4 will have objective type questions.
 Each paper will carry 100 marks.
 There will be no negative marking in Paper 1 & Paper 2.
 Paper 3 and paper 4 will have a negative marking scheme. 1/4th of the marks
will be subtracted for each wrong answer.
 Candidates have to get a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a
minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in all papers to pass the CA Foundation
exam.
 Exams will be conducted through Offline Mode.
 Papers will be available in Hindi and English but Section B of Paper 2will be
conducted in English Medium only.

Papers Exam Timings (IST) Duration

Papers 1 & 2 2 PM to 5 PM 3 Hours

Papers 3 & 4* 2 PM to 4 PM 2 Hours

*In Papers 3 & 4, no advance reading time of 15 minutes will be provided. In papers
1& 2 advance reading time of 15 minutes will be given from1.45 PM to 2 PM.

Important Dates to remember

Registration for CA foundation closes on 1st January for May/June batch.

Registration for Nov/Dec batch closes on 1st July. Students who aspire to be
chartered accountants have to remember the dates for their exam registration or else
they have to wait for another 6 months.
The registration for the current exam will be valid for up to 3 years. They can attend
6 times without validating their registration. After 6 attempts they have to re-validate
their registration by paying a fee of rupees 300.
