Reflect and Share from experiences
and from a viewed film (Molder of Dreams / Classroom of the Heart)

From the film

Kindly watch the 40-minute film entitled CLASSROOM OF THE HEART featuring
Mr. Guy Doud, the Teacher of the Year of the USA in 1986. It is produced by Focus on the
Family Films. The film’s original version is MOLDER OF DREAMS which is a 1.5-hour
film.

From the viewed film ‘Molder your Dreams / Classroom of the Heart’, answer on the
following:

1) What have I/we learned from:

a. Guy Doud as a teacher;

 Guy Doud as a teacher is something to be admired and held up as an example of a
good teacher. He considers the classroom as if it were a home for the students, and he
handles their connection with him as if it were a family. He is really inspiring since he
studies and observes what his students are like. Furthermore, he provides the greatest
ways for teaching and getting to know his pupils.
 Guy Doud is a teacher that is a compassionate, personable, and kind style of teacher
who changes students' lives and ways of thinking about their learning and the people
around them. He teaches his pupils not just how to interview and report, but also how
to be interested in, love, and encourage their peers.
 He is an epitome of a good teacher; his qualities are what make a teacher capable of
influencing and touching students live in every positive way.
 He is a sympathetic, approachable, and friendly type of teacher who influences the
life and way of thinking of students towards their learning and about the people
who surround them. He does not only teach his students how to interview and report
but rather taught them to have interest and show love and support to their classmates.
He helped his students to build self-esteem and to focus on their goals in life
through ups and downs.
 I've learned that we need to have a great sense of humor to become an effective
speaker. And to be compassionate to our chosen profession.

b. Guy Doud’s teachers; and

 His instructors are a group of individuals who shaped him into the person he is today.
Guy Doud's teachers seem to be more concerned with developing students who can
contribute to or alter society.
 Some of his teachers were not kind to him, but despite being tormented, he was able
to stand on his own. I applaud the instructors who had a role in Doud's
accomplishment. Those professors inspired and transformed him from an overweight
loser to a Teacher of the Year.
 Those people around him were a great help in motivating and pushing him to become
a better person. He was well-loved by those people and they are a great influence for
him and that allows him to experience such achievement.
 Some of his teachers treated him not so well but he still managed to stand on his own
despite being bullied. I salute those teachers who became the instrument
to Doud’s success. Those teachers motivated and molded him from a fat loser guy
to becoming a Teacher of the Year who showed a talent for public speaking as well as
entertaining.

c. The film itself?

 I enjoyed the film and would like to see more of it. A really amazing story with many
things to be learned. After viewing the film, I realized a bunch of things. It made me
question, reflect on my former teachers, and consider my future.
 The film is ancient, yet the lesson it wants us to take away is still relevant.
 It still has an impact on everyone who watches it, especially young people like me.
 It's a wonderful thing because it gave my heart the power to seek what I wanted to
become in the future.
 It is truly inspiring and motivating and makes me want to do better to experience real
happiness like what the character have experienced.
 The film is old but the message it wants us to grasp is still on-trend. It still has a
connection to everyone who would watch it especially to students like me. It is very
good that it left my heart the strength to pursue what I wanted to become in the
future.
 Self-worth is found within, look beyond you and discover the value of others." This
part made me realize that I am worth even if I had mistaken from past. It's an eye
opener for me now on how to start loving myself and regain again.

2) How do I/we relate the film with our subject – Assessment of Student Learning 1 /
Assessment in Learning 1, particularly on the lesson ‘Diagnosing Learning Difficulties
and Strengths’?

From your experience/s

1) In your group, share any experience/s of learning difficulty/ies and how you
overcame it/them. Consolidate your stories by filling out (in bullet form) the
table below.

Experiences of Learning How you overcame them:

Difficulty/ies:
 Oral recitation  Overcoming certain challenges is a
 Report presentation difficult task. But when it comes to
my problems, I always manage to
conquer them by being myself.
Simply stand in front and express
what you know, or even declare "I
don't know the answer" or "I didn't
comprehend it." Sometimes we
need to be outspoken, to say what
we're thinking and to let others
around us know what we've been
experiencing.
I’m not good in memorization. Ever since I’m not good in memorization,
so I always write multiple times in a paper
so that I can memorize it by reading and
writing it.
Explaining myself. I am afraid to open up myself and explain
to others what I want so I often keep it
alone. I’m afraid of being criticized so I
only open up my ideas to people that I trust.
I often experience anxiety in speaking I relaxed and try thinking about what to
and making an essay utilizing the say. In making essays, I write down my
English language. ideas through brainstorming starting from
the most important to the least important.
Afterthat, I immediately compose sentences
using those words I brainstormed.
Poor vocabulary I sometimes use dictionary for difficult
words

I attest that I have watched the film, and that I shared my insights/experiences with
my groupmates:
