2.0 TERMS & THEIR DEFINITIONS

ACCEPTANCE: The act of accepting, by signing-off and dating on a document for an


operation after, verification that applicable requirements were met.

APPROVAL: The act of approving, by signing-off and dating on a document after


verification that all the requirements have been met.

ASME DESIGNEE: An individual authorized by ASME to perform administrative


functions on its behalf.

CERTIFICATION MARK: An ASME Symbol identifying a product as meeting Code


requirements.

CERTIFICATION DESIGNATOR: The symbol used in conjunction with the Certification


Mark for the scope of activity described in Manufacturer's Certificate of Authorization.

CERTIFICATION MARK STAMP: A metallic Stamp issued by ASME for use in


impressing the Certification Mark.

CERTIFY: The act of verifying and attesting in writing that Documents, processes,
products, or personnel qualifications comply with specified requirements by signature
and date.

CODE: The ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code of Construction Edition and
Referenced Sections.

CONSTRUCTION: An all-inclusive term comprising materials, design, fabrication,


examination, Inspection, testing, certification and pressure relief/Over-pressure
Protection.

HOLD POINT: Inspection/Examination stage which requires acceptance by the


designee prior to continuation of work. Work shall not proceed without acceptance by
the designee. Designee shall be formally notified for approaching hold point.

MATERIAL: Material manufactured to an SA, SB or SFA Specification or any other


Specification permitted by the applicable Construction Code or Code Case(s).

PREPARE: To issue a document, with signature and date.

PROCEDURE: A document with step-by-step instructions describing how action shall


be performed in order to produce results in accordance with the specified
Requirements.

REVIEW: An act of conformity substantiating and assuring that an activity or condition


has been implemented in conformance with the specified requirements and
documented, when required by this manual. Fabrication may proceed beyond this
point and records are to be submitted to designee during the next available opportunity
or visit.

WITNESS: The action by the designee to be present if required to monitor,


inspect/examine and accept/approve designated stage of activity. The work proceeds if
the designee does not attend the formal waiver is obtained in writing. Designee shall be
formally advised sufficiently in advance on approaching witness points.
