10.0 NONDESTRUCTIVE EXAMINATION

The Design Engineer shall specify Non-Destructive Examinations required by

Code in the drawings. This shall be incorporated on the ITP prepared by QC
Inspector and approved by QSD. NDE shall be performed by the NDT
department qualified and certified personnel in accordance with ASY written
practice using qualified procedures and calibrated equipment.

UT is not carried out by ASY for fulfilling Code requirements. If required in the
future, UT will be performed by personnel whose qualifications comply with
the requirements of SNT-TC-1A Current Code accepted Edition and
Construction Code. Written UT procedures qualified by demonstration,
approved by NDE Level III, authorized by QSD and accepted by the AI will be
used.

10.1 CONTROL OF NDT activities:

The ASY NDT department shall provide the following documents for review
and verification by QSD.

a. Written practice in accordance with Code adopted edition of SNT-TC-

1A/ CP 189.

b. Personnel qualification and certification records of Level I, II & III

personnel in accordance with ASY written practice, including eye
examination records, continuity records and periodic technical
performance evaluation records.

c. NDE procedures and recording formats. NDTM shall arrange for

demonstration/qualification, as applicable of their NDE procedures to
be witnessed by Level III Examiner and AI.

d. Calibration records of the equipment to be used.

All above documents shall be verified and approved by QSD. A copy of all the
above documents that shall be kept for records and for review by AI.

10.2 NDE PROCEDURES;

The NDE procedures for PT and MT shall be demonstrated to the satisfaction

of AI for producing meaningful results. ASY Level III shall certify the NDE
procedures to be in accordance with T-150 of ASME Code Section V.

RT procedure doesn’t require procedure demonstration and achieving the

required density and penetrometer image on technique or production
radiography is considered as satisfactory demonstration of technique.

AI may require demonstration by NDT Department of an NDE Examination or

NDE procedure for cause. Qualification and demonstration records shall be
made available for AI for review and acceptance.

QSD shall be responsible to maintain the records of procedure, demonstration

and qualification.

10.3 NDE EXECUTION:

a) All code required NDE shall be performed at appropriate stages as per drawing
and ITP requirement based on NDE requisition issued by QC Inspector to NDT
Department.

b) In case of spot radiography, the spots shall be clearly marked on the job with
identification of the spot. AI shall be given the opportunity to mark the spots
for radiography.

c) Additional NDE requirements of ASME Section VIII Div.1 (UW-50) shall be

followed if the item is planned for pneumatic test.

d) All NDE results are evaluated by NDE Level II or Level III personnel. The
names of personnel who carried out and evaluated the results shall be clearly
indicated on reports. NDE reports shall be submitted to AI for his review and
acceptance.

e) NDE reports including Radiography films shall be kept on file by QC

Inspector. Upon completion of the job, reports are retained for a period as
described in Section 12 of this Manual.
